Red Bull death: family sues for $85m after possible energy drink death

The family of 33-year-old Cory Terry is suing Red Bull for $85 million after he died on Nov. 8, 2011, after drinking a can of Red Bull, according to the New York Daily News. Terry had reportedly played basketball for 45 minutes at the Stephen Decatur Middle School gym before he consumed the energy drink. Immediately after, he felt lightheaded and collapsed, then died of an apparent heart attack. An autopsy revealed that Terry's cause of death was idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, which is when one's heart basically stops. Although that condition can be caused by any number of things, the medic's report did mention the energy drink, and Terry's grandmother said he was an otherwise healthy man.

Terry's grandmother added that he "drank that stuff all the time" and that it "perked him up."

The family's lawyer is arguing that the energy drink contains "extra stimulants that make it different than a cup of coffee," and it is "more dangerous than what Red Bull lets on."

Red Bull contends that its product is not to blame, as many health experts around the world have deemed it safe enough to consume. However, the FDA says 18 previous deaths had suspected links to energy drinks, and many more health issues have also been blamed on similar beverages.

This lawsuit is reportedly the first wrongful death lawsuit filed against Red Bull.

I used to drink strong energy drinks every morning when I was still working in d office in d big city. In order not to feel sleepy at work. Coffee is no longer working for me.

But now I'm already self-employed. I no longer drink energy drinks daily. Only every Sunday mornings. In order not to feel sleepy inside d church.

I remember when I was 14 before a basketball match I drank 2 Redbulls and I had so much adrenaline that I posterized a rival for the first time a with a tomahawk and I did a 2 hands solo dunk where my chest was near above the rim. People couldn't believe it same as me.
