Same happened to my mom. Negative Pap smears. Finally she went to the hospital and they did a scan and found a tumor in the cervix. Still then, her doctor said it was false. Finally, another doctor did a biopsy and it showed cancer. Thanks to the Oncologists and God, she’s survived so far.

Wow so sorry to hear this...they just said I was negative today but I know I have NOT been feeling well...my mom said the Drs n insurance ppl LIE to not pay the bills if they think you can't afford it I think in going to go every six months n change my diet...pray...n just hope for the best this is a sad story ...i doubt if they misread they probably knew n didn't care I hope they were successful

The slacking in accurate diagnostic attention in general is obscene.
The corporation " healthcare" product lines models are negligence .
The question is not " is it ever useful to know what is being treated"
It's how can people who know better take paychecks without actually diagnosing enter populations as one by one present .
Diagnostic labs in every public health department.
Research and capitalism are unlikely bedfellows.
Neglect kills to often, to soon .

Not all cervical cancers can be picked up by pap smears. Pap smears are effective at diagnosing the majority of cancers which are caused by HPV but not the other 5% that are not caused by HPV. Those are usually only found once they become symptomatic and unfortunately tend to not only be more advanced by the time they are identified, but more aggressive too. There is no effective vaccine or early screening for this 5% of cases. They are caused by overexposure to estrogen in the context of hormonal imbalance. Prolonged contraceptive pill use and PCOS put you at increased risk for this. It is still very rare though. It is almost always caused by HPV and I guess Doctors believe that there is not much point worrying women about a type of cancer that is so rare, especially when there is nothing they can do to prevent it, unlike the more common form and its precurser, HPV. Still, I wish women were made aware of this so they do not suffer a false sense of being 100% protected and potentially ignore the signs of these rare types.
