Yes, that's a nice function of those chords. I have a question: The m7b5 chords are often called half diminished but they have a complete different function. Carol Kaye called the expression half diminished a layman's term. Do you agree with this?

My social justice in music professor said diminished chords are racist chords because they originated from the European white patriarchy. Is this true? I like them but my professor says I would be promoting racism which I don't understand.
