It would be interesting if the US military names the next Abrams “Prime”.

There is a new Challenger 2 upgrade in the works right now. The Project is called Challenger 2 LEP (Life extension project), but will be called Challenger 2 Mk.2 when in service. There are 2 teams competing for the contract, one led by BAE and the other led by Rheinmetall. They are both offering new electronics, control panels and FCS. They are also offering a Soft kill and Hard Kill APS. Both are said to be expected to offer a new lethality upgrade package as well, Rheinmetall with its L/55A1 and BAE with a new AP round (Probably, unless its making a new gun from scratch), although there are some sources out their saying BAE has also offered the L/55A1 which is strange.

0:34 I'm glad he's got his hazard lights blinking, wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.

I'm fairly sure "Megatron" is the name of that specific tank. It's the tank they keep to test all of the new things they want to try. I think I heard David Willey mention this in one of the Tank Museums videos but I can't find which one.

The big dish on the roof, reminds me either of a raised pizza pan ya get at a eat out pizza joint, or the little plastic thing they put in the middle of the pizza. when they deliver.

Just to be clear, Megatron is the name of this individual vehicle, which is used to test potential upgrades.

Transport problems are preferable to vulnerability problems, and some speed is worth sacrificing for increased survivability. Bridges can be strengthened and new routes can be found, or alternative strategies used in those cases, but most of what MBTs are called to do involve taking and holding open ground, either moving rapidly en masse to cross it, or taking up defensive positions in cover to hold it. In reality, any bridge that could withstand two fully laden HGVs parked on it could stand one of these rumbling across it, and that's most of the bridges on main roads in Europe. They might be seriously damaging these bridges in the process, but again, surely that problem is preferable to the alternative.

It's British and doesn't need bridges! It simply absorbs rivers into the tea cooker while it drives along!

At one stage the Megatron test tank was fitted with the Challenger 2E 1500 bhp power pack from MTU. This demonstrates the ability of fitting thus as a Chalky upgrade across the fleet.

The real problem with British tanks isn't the armor, gun or mobility, it's numbers. Not enough of them to make a significant difference!
