Felix Baumgartner is an Austrian skydiver and a BASE jumper. He is renowned for the particularly dangerous nature of the stunts he has performed during his career. Wikipedia
Born: April 20, 1969 (age 43), Salzburg

From my understanding, he is below the atmosphere, maybe inside it, but not outside it. Also, he can reach faster speeds than terminal velocity because the air is thinner that high up, so less resistance. WHAT A JUMP IT WAS!

Anyone with an aviation and/or physics background will know that: He didn't "break" the sound barrier he only went faster than the speed of sound - they are different - so to speak. Breaking the barrier is done at lower altitudes where air is more dense, hence the "cone" and sonic boom which is made by fighter jets etc. It's impossible for the human body alone to do that without tearing apart. He fell at such speed because there was nothing holding him back until he got to a lower altitude.

He was up in the stratosphere where the air is thinner so he was able to fall at a higher speed and his space suit prevented his blood boiling etc.

His father is Turkish and his mother is Austrian. In an interview he said he feels Turkish he came to Turkey jumped from the mosque of Sultanahmet Camii. We'd like to see him again in Istanbul.

You go Felix. I will sit right here on Earth. Thank you very much.

there is very little atmosphere so when he breaks the sound barrier there wont be any noticable difference to him imo. If he were to break the sound barrier at sea level where air pressure is high then it would be different.

Dear god it amazes me people's misunderstanding of how friction works. For one u need molecules to rub against you to get heat and two u have to reach escape velocity before you can even get to a point in "space" that will give u enough velocity to get hot during reentry

It's on the discovery channel for people that don't know... your welcome :)

Two questions, how does he break the sound barrier if we are all limited by terminal velocity when falling in free fall. Two, if he falls from that height, how does he not begin to catch fire due to the friction caused by the atmosphere? Is he still at too low a height for that to happen?

He dosen't catch fire because he's not entering the atmosphere from space. he's still in it so he's not affected by it

gusts of wind blew over the balloon. They also lost radio contact on one of his 2 radios.

he will hit a max speed where there is very little air resistance and then slow back down to normal speeds as he reaches the ground. he will be falling for about 4 minutes
