A real life review of the Lightning-from a V8 guy

Thanks to @ford for the opportunity to have the truck. Here are my honest thoughts. This is not a full in depth review, there are plenty of videos for that, instead, this is my perspective of the F150 lightning as a muscle car enthusiast.
Any questions about the Lightning, comment below, I will try to address them.

I’ve owned my Lightning for a little over a year and have driven it about 26k miles. Charging at home is one of my favorite things. I haven’t had to charge anywhere other than my garage since June. It’s about as convenient as charging your cell phone. Another big advantage is it costs me about 1/3 to charge compared to the Silverado it replaced. In the 26k I’ve owned it - my maintenance has been 2 tire rotations and a cabin air filter. It’s hands down my favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned. With that being said - it would suck if you couldn’t charge at home.

Nick, as a Melin sales rep I just finally have to comment on your growing collection of Melin caps. Aside from seeing them often on your main channel, there are 3 in this video alone (2 on the dash and one on your head). Kudos for being a part of team Melin and only wanting the absolute best hats available.

All valid. I don’t think the ability to charge at home gets enough credit usually. It really is awesome to just plug in at home whenever you need to “fill it up”. The problem with DCFCs is real, but most of us use those…2-3 times a year? It isn’t a factor in everyday life. If you have a gas car for road trips, an ev for everything else is awesome. (Though I road trips mine all the time…I just find it interesting).

I own a Tesla model X. But I love the F150 lightning. I love the blue oval

I understand the 'charging station' issue. You haven't really lived the "EV lifestyle" until you have a charging station at home. I'm on my 3rd EV lease, and I certainly don't miss having to go to gas stations. Being able to fill up every night at home is one of the biggest advantages of EV ownership.

The only time I use public charging is on an occasional road trip. If you plan your potty/lunch stops around a DC fast charger, it is not even a problem on trips....my next EV will be a Ford F150 or a Chevy Silverado EV.

GM, please give him a Silverado EV to review. He'd do an awesome job making a video about it, and how it compares with it's range.

I’m sorry but I couldn’t pay attention with the suspense of the hat falling. 3:26

Looks great Nic, but I’m not sure yet. We have a Honda HRV Hybrid which I believe is a good compromise as it’s self charging with no range or anxiety issues. Best wishes to you and your family 👍🙏🏻. Bob M.
P.s. I wonder what Anna thinks 🤗

Here is the truck I NEED: I put a 600-pound motorcycle in the 6.5 foot long bed (it must be 6.5 feet) and go like hell to our Up North cabin. It is a 360-mile round trip. We also go up in the winter (cold!) to ride snowmobiles and again I sometimes need to haul a 600-pound snowmobile. I set the cruise at 88-mph--YES--I'm speeding. :). We need to get there fast and maximize our Up North time. I don't park the truck in the garage--that is where I keep several those motorcycles--and my never to see rain sports car. What's out there? Are EVs for me?

Great review!! I think ford should you give you the keys to the new Mach-E Rally for a review.

I’ve owned mine since September 2024 and Ford still hasn’t sent me my Tesla adapter(12/09/24). Good thing you got one for your 7 day trial. That being said I charge at home 90% of the time and it is convenient. We took it on a 2000 round trip vacation (just to prove we could) and it wasn’t bad. It’s way more expensive to charge at a fast charger than at home and they aren’t always convenient to find here in the Midwest. The Tesla adapter would be a big deal while traveling.
Also worth noting, cold temps drastically reduce range. I can’t stress that enough. I took a 100 mile each way trip last weekend. Had a full 100% charge, which is a claimed 320 mile range, and stopped twice to charge before I made it home. I stopped once on the way down (20 min) thinking I had added enough to get back home and realized on the way home I wouldn’t make it without stopping again. Another 20 minutes at the same charger gave me enough to get home. That’s the real drawback to the EV. It’s awesome everyday running to and from work, around town, but it suck’s for those couple hour trips in cold weather. I can make that trip there and back in the summer without charging and have some battery left.
Just some insight from a guy who owned a Raptor for 4 years and traded for a Lightning. I’ve had it long enough to know I like it but not in every situation

I know you are a Ford guy. Just if you have a chance drive the GMC sierra Denali EV. Would be curious which you would pick. Great content love the channel and miss you and Strad together.

I've owned a Lightning for a year now, 90% of my charging is done at home. The only time I use fast chargers is away from the city like recently going to Dallas. .12¢/kw that's my electricity rate at home, I've saved a ton coming from a 2006 Tacoma Sport with a 17 gallons tank and 18mpg. Zero maintenance except tire rotation @ 10k miles. Going electric is a no brainer at this point especially with all the reliable Tesla Superchargers for long road trip.

I too am an F-150 guy. However, I'm not tied to the big V8 and all that. My F-150 has the small V6. But it does everything I needed to do. And it's a great trip vehicle. Because Ford has in their infinite wisdom, decided not to do a phev F-150. I've put my name on the list for the upcoming ramcharger. Having a vehicle that runs on batteries but has an internal charger that recharges. The batteries using gasoline for long trips is ideal for me. Any thoughts on that?

I think the lighting is great. I’ve always been fearful of ford drivetrains in the long run but love the look/interior. They just need to improve charging a little and they will kill it
