2 Years Later and he’s already up one prototype tunnel near the giant co Space X. Elon Musk is an innovator and a futurist that is trying to make the world the better place from his own ideas. Nothing but respect

He should take this to Europe. FFS high speed rail is virtually non existent in the US. The US doesn't invest anything into infrastructure.

The bottleneck is the elevator and the on/off ramps - way too slow. One car lifted out of tunnel every 5 minutes will have to be reduced to one car every 5 seconds to prevent congestion. Lanes in existing city streets will have to be dedicated to the on/off points causing congestion.

Being from London and visiting LA recently I was shocked about the traffic problem. London has bad traffic but you can navigate across the entire city with multiple trains very quickly and efficiently. So surprised they never thought to build any form of train transportation in LA..

I don’t get why some people prefer subway trains over these innovative tunnels. Elon himself said that subways are great but they only travel 10miles/hour because they always have to stop. Also, it’s just 2D. On the other hand, these boring tunnels can travel up to 150miles/hour and they are 3D

I respect Elon, but I don't really see his Boring company working in New York.

We have a massive underground subway system New York is #1 in the field of mass transit. Also the MTA will never allow this to exist.

I don’t understand why people are saying tunnel is not impressive enough, this is not the final tunnel people, it is just proof of concept.

This is a good thing. Even if it ends up being a failed experiment when in production, it is better to have people working towards these solutions. Eventually one or more of them will work. Too many people are cynical or overly-critical of new ideas, expecting things to go perfectly, when in real life solutions sometimes emerge after many failures.

what LA needs is a proper subway system and a cultural shift from car transportation into public transportation.
the car paradigm is dead and now it is time to divest in it.

Seems the reporter is trying to pour cold water on this tunnel, rather than accept that it's a remarkable achievement. Suggesting it will be longer than 2 years before others get a tunnel from Boring in their neighbourhood is more presumption than fact.
