"Come Rain or Come Shine," written by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer for the 1946 Broadway musical St. Louis Woman, was recorded by Frank Sinatra on 4 occasions. This is the first, recorded as a V-Disc, on June 5, 1946, with Axel Stordahl as arranger & conductor. V-Discs that were sent to troops during World War II, the only recordings that the musician's union allowed Sinatra to record during the session musicians strike between 1942 and 1944. The track is included in The Columbia Years 1943–1952: The V-Discs CD, a 1994 compilation album.

I have been a Sinatra for many years I am not a bobbysoxer I was born in the 50s my dear husband was born in the 60s but he bought me that cd one Christmas and when I heard Frank Sinatra sing come shine I said to him this is our song no matter what happens no matter how difficult life is as long as we have each other that’s what matters my dear husband passed away March 2015 . I feel this is a sign from him I have to take my dog to the vet tomorrow I am worried about him. When my husband was sick he was always by his side they were partners in crime. So I hope tomorrow brings good news I know it’s in gods hands I have been praying for him and if everything turns out all right I know this was a sign from my sweet Donald Till we meet again my beloved husband.

I’ve not seen this musical. Slow moving piece articulating his devotion. It’s sweet. In the musical synopsis, I was surprised to learn that St. Louis could be so convoluted and dramatic. Who knew.

This lovely V-disc recording demonstrates how Frank's talent was very much in evidence from the very beginning of his career! Thanks for posting it here, catman!
