"weren't you in the closet still?" the bullies always sniff it out even before we begin questioning 💀

This is giving Bianca Del Rio asking “What do you do successfully? … quickly.”

I’ve had the F-slur said to my face by complete strangers. I was once shot in the back with a paintball gun as I was walking to my car from a gay bar. There are family members that still laugh when they ask if I have a girlfriend or when they talk about my “friend”

My coming out story is ACTUAL Republican propaganda because I’m from a family of Trump supporters and they all immediately accepted me when I came out 😭

At my job I helped a Middle Aged couple, and when I walked away I heard the man say “I think that might be a homosexual” and the woman goes “ew”

I made this hoping people who have experienced homophobia, would also come forward. I feel like nowadays gay men, and women forgot all too well, that people like me have died, just because they were gay. I urge you to learn about people like Matthew Shepard, and Brandon Teena. Being gay is political for some reason. It isn’t all brat summer, and poppers. It’s scary, and full of bloodshed. Remember to stand up for your trans friends too. Our stories go hand in hand.

If you're a bit more feminine or have other traits that make you a bit more visibly gay, you have a higher chance of being hate-crimed, two gay people were stabbed in my city just a couple weeks ago for this.

I also faced bullying throughout school for being gay, peeking and laughing at me in the school shower when I was just minding my business was almost a bit traumatizing.

I could tell my family wanted (and still wants) me to be straight, asking me if I have a girlfriend even though I've made it clear many years ago that I am gay.

I also feel like a lot of straight men just outright don't want to be friendly towards you. I am not that feminine, but enough to tell that I am gay somehow. I can easily make friends with girls (without being some gay stereotype), and yet when I try to make guy friends, they never seem interested in being friendly even though I have a lot of "normal" guy interests.

And of course the constant discussion socially and politically about gay people and how so many feel like we don't have a right to exist, which you get desensitized to, but it still sucks to hear when it comes up. I just wanna live lol

To be completely honest, even if you’re lucky enough to not directly face adversity as a gay man… just growing up knowing that there are literally millions of people who would see you suffer, die or lie about who you are is depressing and damaging

Like I know they’re joking but Austin was literally in self-denial for so long to the point of (self admittedly) denying he was gay to the men he slept with 😭 that’s not healthy even if it was ‘self imposed’

When you’re put on the spot it really is a “Gotcha” moment. Like it’s real, there’s just so much to pick one. It’s an everyday thing.

I was in the closet until my mid-thirties. Didn't save me from being called gay throughout my childhood.

I don't remember facing any adversity for being gay, except online by strangers lol. Being Canadian has it's perks.

I was called gay by a lot of boys from school from 2nd to 6th grade, I barely understood what that really meant at first then later just thought something was wrong with me and hated myself for it

Getting bullied or facing harassment as a queer person really depends on so many factors, not to invalidate Austin’s experience, but the queer experience unfortunately just gets more insufferable if you’re feminine, a person of color, or not raised in a progressive environment.
Austin is white, masculine and grew up in a liberal family, so…

Austin lived most of his life pretending he was straight and is straight passing because of his inner homophobia towards himself so I wouldn’t expect him to have experienced much. I’m sure he does but as far as the formative years of his life he didn’t get that experience of being bullied for being a f*g.

I was also bullied in school and specifically for being gay at times even though i was closeted, that didn't stop bullies from assuming i was gay and bullying me for it, and i mean if they were mean based on an assumption I'm certainly not gonna come out and confirm it for them. I still more or less live closeted most of the time unless I'm specifically in queer spaces or have a degree of anonymity, the amount of non-queer folks that know is extremely small tbh.

I have had situations where revealing my sexual orientation changed essentially nothing and situations where I am afraid to reveal it.
