A truly unique artist. Beautiful and deep, and yet light. John Taylor was also a phenomenal pianist. Both deserve olympic status in jazz timeless wonderland.

Playlists - Really great video. For UK viewers, she’s still active playing festivals and events.

My favorite jazz singer is Jeremy Siskind from the video "Two Exercises To Change Your Mindset as an Improvisor"... You've probably never heard of him!!

love this!! I would like more of these types to discover artists that many of us, even those who listen to jazz, might not know of. Could you also do a video on Fred's accompanying techniques.

Norma has been a great teacher and inspiration to me for many years. She definitely informed my work with my chamber band. I so dig her trio work w piano and woodwinds. And to me she sounds forever young -- her authentic chops remain! Thanks for today's offering!

Alice in Wonderland - Wow, Norma has mastery over pitch and melodic shapes, in the midst of fabulous, amorphous, adventurous harmonic accompaniment.

Great choice! I also love her singing on Kenny Wheeler's album Music for large and small ensemble, both as an instrumental line, and on the tracks with lyrics, like for Jan and Sealady. I think you described her as melancholy, which is really accurate. There's a great playlist to be made!

I have been a fan of John Taylor since seeing him in London twenty years ago when I was living there. The trio with Ralph Towner and Maria Pia De Vito had me mesmerized... it's music from another collaboration of Mr Taylor's that could be added to one's playlist :)

Superb choice. By a stroke of luck, her next gig is in 13 days at Southwell, not an hour from my home. I’m going!

Her uniqueness makes her a bit of an acquired taste for some, but your playlist is certainly interesting from a piano player's perspective.

I see a similarity with your record Songs of Rebirth which I bought recently and love. It also reminds me the vocal style of Gayle Moran would you agree?

No soul to Norma Winston's singing.
Jazz singers are supposed to be soulful singers.
