General Cinemas Intro - 1970's era

General Cinemas had this fantastic intro to their movies back in the Disco epoch. I would look forward to this every time I saw a movie at the old Jenifer Cinemas I & II on Wisconsin Avenue in Washington, DC.

I am sitting here with my jaw on the floor. I have been looking for this clip for eons! It has been such a vague dusty little file in the back of my head from the 70's when I was a kid. And that's been almost 50 years now?! Wow! I would go see a movie with my mother in Cincinnati...a big deal at the time. I remember this playing and that meant the cartoons were done and the movie was going to start. Thank you for digging up this little gem! I can see the burnt orange carpeting and smell the popcorn now...

My dad remembers this opening growing up as a kid in the 70’s. Every time I play this for him, he scats and bobs his head to the music. Love you, dad. ❤

I was an assistant manager at General Cinema Saugus MA back in '79 and '80. Great memories!

Best use of harpsichord since the 1700's.

I’ve seen so many movies start with this intro! The first Star Wars was one of them! 👍😎

I loved this bumper (sometimes more than the feature presentation) when I was a kid. Those brilliant drum riffs, Moog synthesizer flourishes and psychedelic kaleidoscopic images will never be seen again in today's digital age. Thanks for posting!

Worked at a GC Theater when I was in high school, heard/saw this a lot. Best job I ever had!

I was never a fan of coming attractions. But I remember seeing this in the movies in the early 70s, which meant the movie was about to start, so I would get all excited when this little vid came on the screen!

Omg--Thank you for having found this! I, too, looked forward to this little thing as a kid every time I went to the movies. I danced around in my house just now listening to it for the first time in God knows how many years! 😄🙏🏼

There was a General Cinema across the street from my high school; I spent countless hours there. Thanks for this clip; brings back memories. The interiors of GC theaters were almost always all white, with a blue light acting as the curtain on the screen. When the blue light faded, it was time for the movie. A weird thing about their theaters: I assume it had to do with whatever sound system the corporation used, but at some point in EVERY movie I saw at any General Cinema there would be a loud noise through the speakers that would shock the hell out of everybody. A short but very loud buzz. At reel change, maybe? But it happened at every GC, never failed. Anyone remember this?

I would see this clip before such movies as "The Apple Dumpling Gang" and "Herby The Love Bug". Thanks so much for uploading it!

I remember seeing this in the 1970s. This appeared before each film. I watched in the North Riverside, Illinois Theatre, for free every Saturday by turning in Pepsi bottle caps. It feels like it was yesterday, and it's been 50 years! Young people, time is precious. You'll never get it back.

I haven't seen this since I was a teenager in the 70's. It's always been stuck in my memory and I always thought it was the coolest intro to a movie ever since. I was just thinking about it and decided to search YouTube so see if I could have any luck finding it. And after about 15 minutes... here I am. Thank you so much for posting this!
Sometimes, it's the little things that can put a big smile on your face.
