How to Fix the Panasonic FZ1000 Lens Zoom

The fairing within the FZ100 lens may get displaced within the lens. I was going to disassemble the camera to get in the lens but realized I could do it from the front. Please note, this is not a comprehensive guide, and it only portraits the steps I took to get the camera fixed. This could possibly help someone in the same situation, thanks for watching.

I can't thank you enough for this video! This exact same thing happened to me with that interior ring becoming dislodged. Took me 10 minutes to fix following your vid. The Q & A on the 2 pins in the comments section helped, too, as I knew to just use a small flat head to pry them out. I happened to have a guitar pick for the seal which worked like a charm. THANKS!!!

The pins - how to remove them: For the back story I had the exact camera with this exact issue and the repair shop asked for £170 to sort it out. I successfully did it at home and this video was key in giving me the confidence to do it (I know nothing about camera repair!). I did struggle with the pins so here is my description of this exercise. The pins have a star shape which, with the right tool, you can spin on its spot. This, however, will only make sure that each pin is no longer held by the spot of glue to keep them in place. It will not 'unscrew' the pin. The pin (the two of them) have no dent by which I mean that they are smooth so trust that they are not held in place apart from the spot of glue. They are merely pushed in cosily in their emplacement. If you pull them you will have no physical resistance but for the friction between the pin and its hole. The tools: I purchased all sorts of tools as the pins simply did not want to come out but the only thing that did work is holding one very small flat screw in each hand and clamping 1 pin that way extracting it little by little. The pin did get scratched in the process but this is only aesthetics. Once one pin is removed it is possible to lift the section with the zoom on (carefully of course) and slide it off the second pin. Of course, you can only practice the 1 flat screw per hand and remove the other. In my case, the pins were too resistant to contemplate removing both using the flat head screw. I hope this helps as I wrote this as the video didn't spend enough time on this part and there was some comment regarding how to remove the pin. End result: my camera is back to working as normal.

What part exactly got displaced and how did you know? Is this related to the infamous FZ1000 Zoom System error? Thanks!

@a7m — Question: *_HOW_* _did this part get dislodged/flipped inside the lens housing??_ Perhaps ur unsure, but if u had to speculate, would u say it was from mishandling (drop/bump) or maybe excessive use? *_THANKS!!_*

Why at 0:48 does the ring seem to change from white to black ? ...at 0:36 it looks white ....at 0:38 the video jumps and the ring is turned over from the white side to the black side...what's going on ?

Planning to replace my Canon SX70HS with the older FZ1000. Do you think it's a good idea? Have you experienced many other problems?

Hello, I have the same problem. As to those 2 pins - were they initially simply glued? Or, the position of the lens was somehow specially adjusted and that glue fixes the lens at certain position? Thanks

Hi
That is a great video!!
Could you please show us how to clean the sensor of FZ1000?
I own an FZ1000 and recently spotted a black dot at f/8 when shooting the sky which becomes barely visible at f/4 and almost disappears at f/2.8.

I came across a disassembly guide at www.ifixit.com

Please observe step 25 - Those three screws fixing the sensor to the barrel are removed to access the sensor. I strongly believe that tampering with those screws will mess up the alignment of the sensor with the lens.

Is there any other way to access the sensor to clean it?
If yes, I would urge you to upload a tutorial video on it!!

Cheers
