Is the Lexus IS (3rd-gen) better than its European competitors? | ReDriven

Firstly, a huge thanks to Cars24 for supporting this video and supplying us with the Lexus IS.

- 100% online purchasing.
- Delivery to your door.
- Money back and pick up within 7 days if it's not for you.
- Every car has a 300-point mechanical check.
- 6-month warranty & 12-months roadside assist.

Anyway, the third-generation Lexus IS has been with us since all the way back in 2013, with production wrapping up in 2021. It has been a polarising proposition for that entire time, least of all for its design.

While it’s always been behind in sales, thanks to
popular options from the likes of BMW and Audi, we reckon the IS is worth a look.

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.

Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.

Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.

So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.

We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

I’m a mechanic. I work at Lexus. We work mostly on Lexus’ but we do get all sorts of other cars, including beemers and benz’. I can assure you that Lexus cars are much better than those other luxury cars. We are so used to Lexus and how easy they are to fix in comparison to BMW and MB. For example, to do an align for a Lexus, you just have to input what car you’re aligning, you prop it up, hit your points for adjustments and done deal. Bmw and MB, a whole different ball game. You have to put weights on the car before you start, you have to load and unload the suspension, it’s just a nightmare. When we see BMW’s, Mercedes’, land rovers, etc, we just wanna run away. Lol. But for anyone who bought a Lexus, you’re in good hands. You have a Toyota car. It’ll last you forever. We get grandfathers in all the time. 250k 300k and more. I don’t see that with other cars. And if you’re thinking of buying a luxury car, please run away from the other ones. You’ll get a much better car in a Lexus.

I bought an IS350 2 months ago after it appeared in a couple of your ‘top 5’ lists. Absolutely love it!!!! Thank you.

Man, I gotta say - this channel has such an amazing concept of reviewing older cars! Most of us don't want to spend money on brand new cars when the value drops as soon as you drive off the lot!

Had my IS250 F Sport since it was 1 year old with 17500Kms, is 8 years old now with 154000kms and still drives like new, love it.

There should be a tax on cars with poor longevity. Or a tax break for cars with high reliability. Forget Diesel Gate, the wastage of irreparable euro cars must be huge.

Over the past 20 years I’ve had an sc430, an isf and now an rcf and I have never replaced a light bulb or anything other that scheduled servicing. No issues covered or not covered by warranty, no leaks, squeaks or clunks. No loss of power, no window, door, boot or hood issues. Literally nothing other than servicing. The Germans just can’t compete.

I bought a 2010 Lexus IS250 a few years ago with 70, 000km and it now has 155, 000km. It is an extremely reliable car but they do have that carbon build up issue. Luckily for me I know how to work on cars and I just took the intake manifold off, used Liqui moly decarb cleaner and picked off all the carbon with a hook & pick set until the valves were clean and put it back together. I then added an oil catch can and she's loving life again. It was easy and only took me a weekend. If your not that way inclined or you don't want to spend about a grand to have the valves cleaned then I wouldn't buy a 250. The IS350 doesn't have that problem as it is direct and port injection.

That thumbnail caught me off guard thinking AK was covering his face in shame and embarasment for the IS but soon realised he is actually crying in happiness and joy!

Who said it would be boring talking about any car in general, with you, Jim and the rest of the crew I could easily tune in for hours, great laid back presenter, entertaining and on point.

I bought a used lexus. 2014 lexus is250 base model at 60, 000 miles. Going on to 80, 000. No issues at all. And it drives amazing. Best reliable car in my opinion.

Got a is350 sports luxury 2013 and it’s the best fun I’ve ever had on the road, haven’t looked back from buying it. So glad to see other people giving it the praise it all deserves

I have owned a 350isF for 6 years and apart from servicing I have not spent 1 cent.
It is a great drive. Get into the windy Hill countryside and it is so much fun to drive.

I have this lexus is300 2017 premium package it's pretty solid it's like a bullet proof and it's actually fast enough specifically when you put it on sport mode the sound system is amazing . Everyone seems to compliment me when they see me with it. Great choice if you want a reliable long lasting car with slick design and sporty look. You can definitely modify it easily . I had no regret spending my hard earned money for this machine because I enjoyed it everyday 💯 🥳

Great review. Own IS 350 black line edition 2020. Fun to drive and interior is adequate for my needs. Easy to service and the sound of natural aspirated V6 is awesome.

There's a reason why BMW, Mercedes, and Audi lose 90% of their value in 8 years and Lexus never loses 90% of their value.

I never comment as I watch this channel on my television. But I just wanted to say what a fantastic resource this is, and how well put together all the information is. It’s near the top of my list of YouTube car channels.

When my ISF went in for work at the dealer, they gave me a 2020 is300 loaner. All the tech was nice but, personally, paint dries faster than it goes at full beans. Then again, I'm used to v8 beans. Another great review!

This is seriously the best channel for stock/close to OE car reviews. The content is so short and simple, and avoiding going over the obvious shit that others love to drabble over to make the videos go on for ever....
