Yes we should go back to the barbaric days of prisons. Might be a better deterrent.

Went to the gym twice a day, good food, slept at least ten hours and put on 14lb of muscle, all that in less than six months. English lessons were very popular with a lot of the prisoner's.

To keep things in perspective 8.4 of a smaller sum is less than 8.4 of a larger sum.I would call it misrepresentation. As in certain other areas.

Like it or not, there has to be some sort of deterrent to crime and prison needs to be a place to which, no one ever wants to go, let alone return, time and again. To some people, life on the inside is an improvement on their solitary, aimless lives. They crave structure and boundaries; something that was clearly missing in their upbringing. In the modern mindset, too many believe that the world owes them something, purely by dint of being in it and the criminal rationalises his behaviour with the selfish logic that the victim will get insurance money for his stolen car, for example. The perpetrator has no thought of the distress and disruption occasioned by his behaviour. Prison becomes an occupational hazard, carrying no stigma but rather becoming a badge of honour, though there is not, of course, any honour among thieves. No; incarceration should mean hard work and discipline. Privilege should be dependent on behaviour. It need not become barbaric but the experience must create sufficient discomfort for some reflection.
