I finally watched Aftersun and while assuming the theme and being less engaged with the first half of the film; it hit me extremely hard. I related with it a bit too much and found it to be an amazing execution of intelligent subtext.

Came back here after watching Aftersun, I wasn't really sure if Adum had a video on it, didn't quite remember, but since there is one, guess I should say that I feel like the heavily closed shots are supposed to emphazise Sophie's point of view. It's quite literally what she is seeing and how she's feeling about that. Those are shots that evoke a feeling of sparse, thin, difuse memories of youth/infancy, the kind that only stays in memory in flashes. The kind of formative imagery that had her reflecting and interpreting the world around her. We never see Sophie with that kind of close-up shot, unless when in-camera. I think it very efficiently shifts from her perspective to her father's.

I love the way they explored the themes of (what I feel like it is) depression or dysthymia, that Sophie as an adult looks back and reflects on the way her father was feeling, the place he was in at that time, for now she finds herself in a similar spot. It's all very subtle and poetic. I really like it. It drags a little, but is otherwise very beautiful and powerfully moving. It uses music sparingly, but when it does, it hits.

To me, the zoomed in feeling in aftersun comes from her thinking back and fixating on memories, without the noise of the peripheral. But I also know nothing about film soooo

I love how that style of computer assisted rotoscoping is being called Joel Haver styled. Love that guy.

I've already seen Decision to leave and I fucking loved it. After Oldboy and Thirst, I think this is my third favourite movie of Park Chan-wook's.

EO's poster makes it look like a really good indie game you can play on the Switch

EO is the quintessential decent film of 2022.

Every video, Adum sounds like he has strayed further away from sanity

I love all these festival videos! I can really tell how much you love and respect movies by how often you check out lesser known films and directors that most people don't even know exist. It helps broaden my eyes to what's out there too, which is honestly kind of fun! I hope you keep doing these

I actually really liked the use of close up shots in aftersun, it made everything feel more personal and like it was through the main characters eyes almost.

One day Adum will assimilate and become one with a film festival himself

Skolimowski is one of the greatest directors ever. The same can be said about Robert Bresson, author of "Au Hazard Balthazar", film that inspired "EO".

Amazing to hear your thoughts on "Syk pike". I was sad to see how poorly it did at the box office here in Norway, overshadowed by other Norwegian September releases. I would've thought it could garner a lot of the younger demographic. However, I am very happy to see the film being on festivals outside of Norway and that it gets a lot of good attention. It needs it! I loved the film as well.

The most memorable part was how long it felt!

I don't think you can be more cruel to a piece of entertainment, love it.

Park Chan-Wook filmmaking is unparalleled, every film he’s ever made is great in some way it’s honestly incredible how consistent he is.

It’s a shame quantum cowboy wasn’t great. I feel like a movie with a similar concept could be really well done

EO is a remake or retelling of French Director Robert Bresson’s Au Hasard Balthazar. An amazing movie everyone here should watch. Its also Michael Haneke’s favorite movie. I havent seen EO yet, but I Guarantee the ending is a reference to Au Hasard Balthazar and thats why it seemed weird. You’re just missing context.
