To all the people here: YG is being sued because he hired someone to impersonate Rick Astley's voice despite him only allowed to sample the instrumentals.

I don't blame Rick..that one song is his bread and butter, and will be until his dying day, and his legacy to his kids..

Rick : Was it worth getting Rick Rolled and sued millions for this?
Gravy : A small price to pay for salvation.

This is ridiculous, they got the samples licensed end of story. No one is listening to gravy INSTEAD OF Astley, they're completely different songs with different audiences. Again the samples were cleared and there's no way its costing Astley anything in damages, pretty greedy move from the guy who's benefited so much from other people remixing/reuploading his song

His voice does NOT sound remotely like Rick Astley lmao 😂

Interesting. I was thinking the sample wasn't cleared Ala JuiceWRLD, but it was...and this is specifically for the likeness. Hm..I kinda assumed if you clear the sample you cleared everything

What I find funny is that under Parody Law, Yung Gravy has every right to be safe. Impersonator or not, betty was a remixed song of the Original (Never Gonna give you up). It was approved and no one had a problem with the Impressionist. I honestly didn't think it was Rick at first, I thought it was Yung Gravy. I think this lawsuit is pretty silly.

I had wonder this when I first hear the song. I figured he had done some diligence and got his blessing for the song, which would have been smarter...

Yeah Yung gravy has done a song that's a take from "never gonna give you up" the dance is even the same and that's undeniable no matter how you look at it so I suppose that is a issue for copyright and I even heard that they asked Rick for permission and it wasn't excepted for whatever reason! I suppose it could be classed as a spoof which has different laws I think??? Anyway I am not sure how I feel about Yung copied it but I suppose I'd be upset if I wrote/sung a song and other people made money without me especially when it's by far the same song that everyone knows me for especially from a whipper-snapper called "Yung gravy"!!! Wasn't "never gonna give you up" the most played/ watched song in history especially with the Rick rolled era!!!

I understand rules and laws on any parts of songs, but how do you copyright a voice? I'm confused. Gravy sounds different from RA.

I'm confused. Is it about his voice impersonation or sampling song?

It's just "Never gonna give you up " for teenagers today ! I was a teenager when the original came out, so glad I didn't miss the 80's Just wonder if people will still remember YOUNG gravy in 6 years, let alone 36 !

I heard it and thought 'knock off, get your own song'. Rick is well within copyright laws to sue... 'Rick has talent and originality, be like Rick!

Why didn't he just ask for permission? why are ppl sos stupid? I like Yung Gravys song but is he so hard up for cash he can't use Rick Astly's song the proper way?
