The US has announced it will send controversial weapons to Ukraine as part of more than $1bn (£800m) in military and humanitarian aid.

Russia condemned the move to equip US Abrams tanks with shells strong enough to pierce conventional tank armour.

They are made of depleted uranium - a by-product of uranium enrichment stripped of most radioactive material.

Overnight, suspected Ukrainian drone attacks were reported on the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don and near Moscow.

As an American, Russians and their sympathizers complaining about our munitions sounds familiar. It reminds me of when the Germans invented, and then used, poison gas and flamethrowers during WWI, and then complained about us using our Winchester 1897 shotguns for trenchsweeping.

I would say that torturing and bombing civilians is more controversial than using these kinds of weapons against armed invaders.

What’s more controversial is letting them get away with this invasion

The only controversial thing is allowing tyrants to keep breathing in this day and age.

Give Ukraine Air Superiority and Ukraine might have a fighting chance of success.

The maths are simple, the more we fund it the more will die. I don’t agree with it.

The fact that the press still uses the term "controversial" when talking about DU tank shells shows an unbelievable and dangerous level of ignorance

There are no controversial weapons when you are criminally attacked and fighting for you very existence!

"The Russians are almost certainly using them". Why can't you be absolutely certain?

This basically translates to “waaah you wont nerf your weapons no FAIR!” Depleted uranium isnt totally harmless but certainly less dangerous than the russian shells landing every day

What is "ALMOST CERTAINLY"???

You can argue using these weapons on foreign soil is wrong. But this is Ukraine's democratically elected government using these weapons in there OWN COUNTRY as a defensive CHOICE. The free people of Ukraine seem to support this decision. Not your country NOT your decision💙💛✌
