A Suffolk County police officer helped deliver a baby on the shoulder of the Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills Tuesday evening.

Authorities say Highway Enforcement Section Sergeant Pete Scheuerer responded to a 911 call at approximately 5:35 p.m., during which the caller, 30-year-old Edward Livote, stated his wife was in active labor and that they were en route to Winthrop Hospital in Mineola. But 30-year-old Janine Presley-Livote wasn't sure they were going to make it.

The couple, from Hauppauge, was driving their 2014 Honda Odyssey minivan westbound on the LIE when he pulled over on the shoulder left of the HOV lane near exit 51.
