The middle of the night release thing is so funny to me, they drop at the same time worldwide so it's like 5pm in Australia. It's there as soon as you get home from work, which is perfect.
It's like they tailored their whole international release schedule to suit Australians

Every American: Stop releasing episodes in the middle of the night!

Me a European: Wow so great I get to enjoy a new episode every week over lunch!

Here's to hoping that they adapt a "What If: Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe" in maybe season 2 or 3.

Glad to hear positive reviews! I too grew up as a fervent "What If...?" fan. When I had heard that they were adapting that concept into a show, I have to say it was the one I was most excited for as well. I'm getting a real "Twilight Zone" vibe from the marketing material in terms of how the episodes play out. Each episode introduced and concluded by an omniscient narrator, crazy plotlines that can diverge wildly from the safe and expected path, and plot lines that can range from poignant to horrifying. I am really looking forward to this!

Just saw the first episode. Loved it.

Capt. Carter felt complete with a sword and shield. I want to see more of this character tbh.

The animation looks like Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, but with the right amount of time and money, and of course better technology. We'll just have to wait for a few more hours. Great review and great comics on the background 🔥

I knew absolutely nothing about this Marvel series, as I've never read any of the What If... comics. Prior to this review I wasn't very interested in it and didn't even know it was being released now. However, after hearing you explain the premise, and hearing you explain your love of the original comic book runs, I'm looking forward to watching What If... . Thank you for the recommendation, Dan. :)

A second season has officially been greenlit and what was supposed to be the tenth episode of this first season has been pushed to the second season due to covid related delays that they experienced. Can't wait for this series. 1:45 AM right now as I eagerly await the drop of the first episode in 15 minutes!

I adored What If? I CANNOT believe you pulled out the EXACT same old issue I loved the most.

I love that the episodes drop in the middle of the night. I get off of work, head straight home and watch anything Disney+ drops on Fridays and Wednesdays. Its perfect. For me at least.

I have a what if silver surfer merged with the carnage symbiote! One of the coolest covers as well!

The second season was already announced for What If where each season is 9 episodes.

LOVED these comics growing up too. There were some really fun ones like if Dark Phoenix didn't die or if Wolverine became King of the Vampires, and I hope that they keep making a bunch of these. Nothing was off limits, and that's what made it great.

I love the What If? comics, and the tv animated version is one of the Marvel series I was most excited for, ever since it was announced.
I caught the tail-end of the original What If? comic series, and then I went on to collect every issue of the 90's run, as well as the various mini-series and one-shots that have popped up sporadically ever since the end of that second series.
What If? also has the distinction of being the first comic book I started collecting regularly, every month.

Some of the stories from the comics that I hope get adapted are "What If Wolverine Killed The Hulk?"; "What If Spider-Man Joined The Fantastic Four?"; "What If Wolverine Was Lord Of Vampires During Inferno?"; and some of the weirder, nonsensical ones, such as, "What If Sgt. Fury Had Fought World War II In Outer Space?"; "What If Thanos Joined The Avengers?"; and "Punisher Kills The Marvel Universe" (this one is only technically a 'What If?', since it doesn't actually have the 'What If" in the official title).
So yeah, all this is to say that I'm one of the folks who'll be up in the wee hours watching this show, every week. 😅

"What If...?" Vol 2 #9 is Dan's go-to. For me, it was Vol 2 #7 "What if Wolverine Was An Agent of SHIELD." Art by Liefeld and just really amazing story and visuals.

I think I will maintain my schedule of going to sleep at a decent hour on Tuesday, then wake up normally Wednesday and watch it with my coffee before work.
