Gratuity is given by the government in appreciation of the work of a government / government employee or teacher who dies during retirement or while on duty.
The maximum GRATUITY for a retired or deceased Central and State Government employee is Rs. 20 lakhs. The 7th CPC recommended raising GRATUITY from 10 lakh to ₹ 20 lakh from 01.01.2016.
Formula = ¼ x last pay drawn (BASIC + DA) x tenure
ie., A quarter of the salary *lpd (Basic Pay + Inward Price) *Total tenure.
Total tenure is Half-monthly pay for each six months of eligible service Maximum pay 33 times.
