What is "classical liberalism?" Is it a specific set of beliefs, a philosophy, an economic theory, or something else? In this series, Dr. Nigel Ashford explores what classical liberalism -- sometimes called "libertarianism" -- actually means. Dr. Ashford looks at 5 different schools of classical liberalism/ libertarianism, and examines how they are similar and how they are different. Dr. Ashford hopes that as you explore this series, you will think deeply about your own beliefs and political philosophy, and draw your own conclusions.

I absolutely love your explanations of things. Im currently a political science student at university and I really wish that my lecturers were as concise, informative and explanatory as you are. Well done !

0:25 to 1:07 is brilliant. i wish more people [on youtube, but also in general] having discussions/debates would take this approach to heart.

To elaborate, it's not the law that determines justice, it's justice that determines the law. So it's up to individuals to figure out what justice truly means before we can decide what the law should be.

I see that now, and you're right no the mark! :)

I LOVE the way he picks CERTAIN Liberal thoughts on trying to get people to believe what is Liberalism. here is a concept, lets go back to the ORIGINAL idea of what LIBERALISM is. Let's start from there and FIRST educate the listeners on WHERE it STARTED, WHERE it is today, and "WHY" it has moved here and WHAT influences have MADE IT become what it is today!

THAT's how you educate or structure a discussion!

)PART 3) Ever wonder why some who finish even a doctorate's degree enter the work place as a rookie? Why is that? If they have such a high degree of knowledge, why are they not immediately capable of handling the real world scenarios?

it's because there is a HUGE difference between school and reality! And it takes that EXPERIENCE to see things in proper perspective! I know, I thought I was intelligent when I first finished my doctorates. But at 46 I still learn every day from the REAL world.

(PART 2)

If I were a young kid coming out of college, I'd be confused too!

Which category do I fit in?

Social democracy
Green politics
Civil libertarianism
American Progressivism
American Liberalism
Social democracy
Libertarianism
Non-interventionism
Classical Liberalism
Conservatism
Conservative libertarianism
Economic liberalism
Paleoconservatism
Conservative libertarianism
Christian Right

And believe me, the list goes even deeper if you want it to!!

(PART 4)

So before you hang your hat on something a professor tells you, I'd finish my courses and just keep those balances in mind as I allowed LIFE to be my last professor!!

The unique thing about professors is the average professor has NEVER had a REAL job! They've been students and teachers their whole life. That's why the ongoing joke when you arrive at your new job is; "now that you've been taught in school, let's un-teach you and show you the RIGHT way to do it"....

The intention here is to present an intellectual discussion of the 3 questions. Blind Constitution worship is an unthinking and un-useful response. The Const' represents one answer, and a great one IMO, but YOU have to present the reasons why this approach is good.

1. How do we decide what the role of Gov't should be? READ THE CONSTITUTION.
2. Why should Gov't be limited? BECAUSE POWER CORRUPTS AND ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY.
3. What is the legitmate role of Gov't. READ THE PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION.

He's not the only Libertarian Candidate running. There's Gary Johnson, as well.

Are you serious?
He is a candidate for the Republican Nomination for President. He ran in 2008 and 2012. He is the only Libertarian candidate running. He drew in fairly large and enthusiastic crowds and had a lot of support and fundraising particularly with the help of young people. He never did well in primaries do to his anti-war/non interventionist stance and drug legalization. But he has had a huge impact on the party and is sometimes referred to as the grandfather of the Tea Party.

What I was doing with the capital letters was answering the three main points of the first video. I didn't watch much more. My point being that we don't need professors to tell us what the Founders meant and designed. In other words, we don't need lectures. professors lecture sometimes just to justify their existence and create more muddy water so they now have a job to clear it up. I summed up in three sentences (capital letters) what this prof is making a career out of.
