Upside Down Fire, Utilize Wet Wood For Camp Cooking

The typical way we build fires from the bottom up with tinder, smalls, mediums, and larges is not the most efficient way to build a cooking fire... especially not if you only have limited fuel wood and it, wet.
Check out this little experiment I did in the Hobo Stove... just cooking up a couple of boiled eggs. LOL! Maybe I'm easily amazed but this one blew my mind. Thank You! Please follow the LINKS below and SUBSCRIBE. Thank You!

I had only heard of the upside-down fire, once before, years ago and had forgotten all about it. Thanks for the lesson. Cheers David.

If I make a fire whilst wild camping it’s usually an upside down fire! Low maintenance and long burning! Great vid

I've never tried the upside down fire method but I will say I'm totally amazed with no more fuel you used and boiled eggs. That's awesome.

Great vid.
My dad taught me the upside down fire technique when i was a young lad and we used to go hunting/camping. It's fantastic for damp wood as the heat transfer from the top helps dry out the damp wood below it.
Anyway, always great to see your vids and loved the prayer before having your eggs.
Good bless David, stay safe my friend

Cool vid!
Have to try the backwards style fire.
Don't boil, just cook eggs directly over coals, nice and smokey flavor!

Egg-celent! Now I've just got to find a nice 5-gallon bucket, and give this a try.

One thing that might be worth testing with this setup...

Using a Swedish fire torch type of configuration for the large pieces.

In other words, stack them all vertically, cut roughly to the same height. Then pile the smaller material on top of that stack.

I tried something like it in a small double wall gasification stove, and it burned surprisingly well. My guess is that it'll work awesomely on your hobo stove, especially a big one.

Little dab of mustard there would have been the absolute best. And yes, top down fires are the most efficient for camping. No Hollywood-type campfires, but slow steady heat for cooking.

That's impressive David it surprised me, there's enough heat there to cook more than the eggs

when the world seems "upside-down" right now - isn't it grand to find something that works when it's 'upside-down' lol
