There is a side by side of this with the original “Beat It”. It is made shot for shot with the MJ video.
MJ actually worked with Al on both of these videos. He loved Weird Al’s work.

FUN FACT: Weird Al hired as many of the dancers from Michael Jackson's "Beat It" video as he could for this piece to make it as spot-on as possible.

Re: Weird Al his videos are almost always recreations of the original artists work, down to using the same sets and extras when possible, his attention to detail in every aspect of his craft is unbelievable...

"So much weirdness... this is so odd"

You realize that his name isn't "Normal Al Yankovic", don't you? ;-)

The more that you experience his videos, the sooner you'll realize that he has talent and ideas to spare. He can cover ANY style of music, has a very versitile voice, and the physicality to pull of dance moves that Michael Jackson enjoyed.

“Amish Paradise” is a must, and “The Night Santa Went Crazy” is hilarious.

As someone who grew up with him, I am loving watching your Weird Al discovery journey.

You should definitely check out Amish Paradise. It's one of his best parodies.

You are right, “Eat it” did come before “Fat”, but that’s only because “Beat it” came out first, in ‘82, and he parodied it with “Eat it” in ‘84, then in ‘87 “Bad” was released and he parodied that with “Fat” in ‘88, so the songs were released in this order because of the timing of the original songs. Weird Al Yankovic has been doing this for a VERY long time, I’m 45 and grew up watching his parodies since the 80s, this dude was, is and always will be a comedic genius and the KING of parody, I remember my first parody of his that I saw when I was a kid was “Like A Surgeon” which parodied Madonna’s “Like A Virgin”, then “I Lost On Jeopardy” which was a parody of “Jeopardy” by Greg Kihn Band, and then “Eat It” which of course parodies Michael Jackson’s “Beat it” 🥰💕 I also remember memorizing the entire song of “Fat” when it was released and just singing that all through Jr. High School, or middle school, depending on where u grew up, in NYC where I grew up it was Jr High 😁👍🏼 I would recommend you check any of his parodies out, there are all gold and all very funny, he is a unique talent and there will only ever be one Weird Al, he is a one of a kind entertainer 🥰💕

You're starting to get hints of this in the comments, so I should point out the four main "genres" of Weird Al:

1. Parodies. His most prolific and most famous one. If you wish to continue, the current suggestions are great, but you can also consider "Perform This Way" and "Smells Like Nirvana".

2. Style Parodies. These are original songs that are written in an artist's style so well you would swear they were parodies. "Pancreas", "Germs", and "First World Problems" are good examples of this.

3. Polka Medleys. Here Al sings an actual medley of related songs put to a polka beat.

4. Stream of Consciousness. These are songs where Al takes an idea and runs wild. "Hardware Store", "Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota", "Albuquerque", and "Everything You Know is Wrong" are examples.

Apparently ‘eat it’ was Weird Al’s break out song. His manager actually managed to get permission from MJ himself and this actually got Weird Al into records big enough to make a name for himself.

As great as Weird Al is, his band deserves a lot of credit as well.

Amish Paradise is a top recommendation. For the last 40 years most artists consider it an honor to have Weird Al do a remake of their songs. Some people even believe you can't claim to be at the top of your game if he hasn't done one of your songs

The end is a shout out to MJ’s “Thriller”.

Go Eddie Van Halen! Yes that *is* how you shred a guitar. (Eddie played for both MJ & Weird Al)
And that "fighting over a chicken" scene:
- In the original, the two guys hands were tied together (no backing down in the fight)
- In the Weird Al version .... each grab a leg of a rubber chicken, same concept of being held close together, but it has a rubber chicken, a symbol of silly comedy.

As I'm sure a lot of others will point out up, until about 20 years ago all Weird Al music videos aren't just parodies of the songs, but also direct parodies of original music videos as well because at the time the audiences would be very familiar with music videos for hit songs. So they work even better if you familiarize yourself with the original music videos first.

Speaking as a Gen Xer, he's basically reiterating all the things our parents told us to make us clean our plates. Only, it was starving kids in China... Also, I strongly identify with your feelings on canned tuna. It makes me gag. My grandmother and aunt tricked me into eating tuna casserole by telling me it was chicken, but I knew. I also had to clean my plate. 🤢🤢🤢

You can see MJ's and Al's versions side by side and see the brilliance of this homage/parody, on YT somewhere. Perfectly done.

Rick Derringer played that fantastic guitar solo and did a fine job of giving it the Eddie Van Halen feel! Great reaction!!

This is the song that really made Al... instant celebrity overnight. And all he's done is get better ever since.

Two of my favorite Weird Al songs are "Like a Surgeon" (after Madonna's "Like a Virgin") and "The Hamilton Polka"-- fantastically inventive. Lin Manuel Miranda loved the Hamilton Polka, by the way.
