Here's a tribute to the 80s and bands like Simple Minds, New Order, and even Duran Duran! One Night Only's "Say You Don't Want It." It's such a great Pop mix. There's only a small amount of Guitar in it, so I Rocked it up a bit. I bet live it sounds more like this. Still, the lead vocals are really worth the price of admission here.

These videos serve as lessons on how I play this bunch of Pop, Rock, and Reggae songs - sometimes as a single guitarist playing the only guitar part, though that's rare. And sometimes if there is more than one guitar part, then trying to find the single good path through the tune. I complete one pass, demonstrating different Rhythm parts, styles, and techniques. There is no talking. No discussion. No note-for-note explanations. As such, for clarity, my guitar is supposed to be louder in the mix than it would ever be in a live setting. But, if you really want to hear what I hear, do what I do and put on a good pair headphones with great bass response! It's worth it.

Why this is important to Rhythm Guitar:
Well, the song only has one chord progression in it, and I always enjoy those. There are lots of songs like this, so the challenge is to mix the playing up a bit. Also, when you have two echoes making dotted 1/8 and 1/2 echoes, you get a bit of a fast U2 sound that can only be heard once in the song - even though the delay is on all the time. You just can't hear it. Echoes add depth to your playing.

You need to embrace delay as a replacement for reverb.

And drama. Delay adds a mysterious drama...

Oooh.
