Today, in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about Bull Riding.
Bull Riding comes under the category of rodeo sport in which a rider rides onto the large bull.
Bull Riding is an individual sport where participants compete against each other.
The objective of the game is to stay mounted while the bull attempts to buck off the rider.
Every bull rider is required to wear gloves, boots, chaps, and a helmet.
The contest begins with the rider mounting the bull in a small enclosure known as a bucking chute.
After getting a ready signal from the rider in form of a nod, the bucking chute is opened and the bull rushes out into the arena, being ridden by the rider.
The riders are only allowed to touch the bull with the riding hand.
The target for the riders is to make sure that they stay on the bull while it bucks, spins, and twists to try and dismount them.
The objective for the riders is to stay on the bull for more than eight seconds.
If the rider fails to stay on the bull for eight seconds or more, the rider goes unscored.
The riders and their bulls are scored from 0 to 100 points.
There are two judges who sit at a distance, one to score the bull from 0 to 50 points, and the other one will score the rider from 0 to 50 points.
The game continues for several nights where one rider usually ride one bull per night
Only the top 20 riders compete on the final night.
How to win in bull riding?
At the end of the event, the rider with the highest collective points wins the game.
