Imperial Paradise
Показать описание
Imperial Heaven, that's where Emil found himself in.
The country was covered in snow, chattering soldiers and civilians alike, the sunset consuming the skies above.
"You new here, kid?" A soldier gestured to Emil, "Do you have anyone with you?"
Iris held Emil's hand roughly, "He's with me, I've got him covered already."
The other soldier eyed Emil up and down, "He looks quite fresh, must've been one of those passengers from that train of new arrivals, hm? The army will love him."
"I know, I'll be watching over him." Iris said sternly.
The soldier chuckled, "You're not usually this protective, Iris. Is there anything you have in mind?"
"I can't let him be consumed by this eternal torment, Sasha." Iris said sternly once more, holding Emil close.
Emil looked up at Iris, "What will happen to me?" He said, trembling in fear for what's to come in this new life.
"I'll try my best to protect you, unfortunately the army wants you as you are a new arrival... you fit their requirements to be a melee infantryman, so I can't just hide you lest I lose my position in the army."
Emil nodded, "I understand..."
Iris gestured Emil to the recruiting office, "You'll get your documents there, I'll make sure nothing bad happens, alright?"
Emil and Iris entered the recruitment office, the recruiter looking at Emil. "Is he one of the new arrivals, Corporal?"
Iris nodded, "Yes sir, I'll be watching over him in my company."
The recruiter handed Emil a paper, "Write your name. You seem perfect for the melee infantryman strand."
Emil tilted his head, grabbing the pen and writing his name. "Is that it..?"
The recruiter nodded, "It's all we can do, after all you are completely new to Conexa and Heaven's in desperate need of soldiers."
"We'll get you out of those old clothes, and we'll issue you a new uniform after your training."
"Welcome to Imperial Heaven's Military, Emil." The recruiter said enthusiastically.
"The war shouldn't last too long, so worry not, the paradise awaiting you is only within a week's reach." The recruiter gestured, a white lie waiting to be unraveled.
"Once your service is over, you can live here peacefully and enjoy the rest of eternity, alright?" The recruiter smiled, writing down on his clipboard.
Emil nodded, "Thank you, sir."
Emil walked out of the office, his documents and newly made IDs in hand.
"You know, Emil... those recruiters said the same thing to me when I was first conscripted." Iris sighed as she guided Emil to the settlement of the nearest training corps.
"I could tell... I just sensed within you that... you've been at this for a while." Emil looked up at Iris.
"I knew you were more than just a scared kid on the surface, you're a lot smarter than I thought..." Iris smiled slightly, "So how'd you come here? What did you... erm, die from?"
Emil sighed, "Tumor. Brain tumor." He gestured to the bandages on his head, "The bandages don't seem to come off though... I don't want to see what lays under them as of now."
Iris tilted her head, "I understand."
Emil looked at Iris, "What about you? Do you remember how you died?"
Iris chuckled a bit, "Well...actually, I was born here. I was part of the royal family... my mother and aunt served in the army instead of the royal guard.. I want to follow in her footsteps."
Emil nodded, "Royal family?"
Iris scratched her head, "Heaven's controlled by a royal family, we just call them The Dynasty. I don't have much pride in sharing the same blood as them, since they're the whole reason we've been stuck in this long war with the Hellish Commonwealth.."
Emil was a bit appalled to learn all this information, "I see.. I.. I look forward to serving with you, I-Iris.."
Iris smiled, "Sure. I'll try my best to keep you safe, alright? Once this all blows over.. we can be more than just battle buddies, we'll be friends."
Emil smiled, "I'm looking forward to it, Iris."
"I wanna see more of this world, it looks beautiful.." Emil looked at the skies and the sunset, the snow falling on his head making his hair shimmer in the sunlight.
"It really is paradise, well... what was meant to be a paradise at least.." Iris sighed.
Emil and Iris reached the training corps settlement,
Iris waved, "I'll see you tomorrow, Emil. Make yourself at home, and introduce yourself. The training will be a little rough, but I believe in you."
Emil stammered a bit, "T-Thank you... I hope everyone else here is as nice as you, Iris.."
Iris smiled, "Best of luck to you, Emil."
Iris left for her respective barracks, as Emil entered the settlement, expecting the worst out of it.
Is paradise just endless fighting?
It was like none of the books he read back in the realm of the living.
Emil sighed, not understanding much of the world he resides in now.
All he knows is he's an asset, someone who must fight for his freedom.
Freedom closed in by a war he never asked to fight in.
