As an Australian, the mere thought of letting these invasive species thrive makes so angry. The fact that people believe that survival of the fittest should be applied to this scenario is beyond ridiculous.
These animals were introduced less than 200 years ago, yet the devastation caused, not to mention the extinction of many unique species will have an ongoing effect that Australia and it native animals may never recover from.

Steve Irwin hated feral cats, I remember that from watching his show back in the day.

There was such a missed opportunity for a Monty Python reference with the carnivorous rabbits...

If only we could teach cats and foxes to eat cane toads

Most Aussies have smashed toads with a golf club or cricket bat at some point

Back in the day, I spent 6 months bicycle touring in Australia and primitive camping in the bush. I was amazed at all the endemic flora and fauna, but quickly learned how invasive species have ravaged the county. The same thing is happening in New Zealand and many other island habitats around the world. This is all part of he 6th Great Extinction human activities is causing.

I absolutely adore cats. All from giant Siberian tigers, to your fluffy little housecat. Yet, having said that, I have no issue with feral cats being killed because they are utterly ravaging a native ecosystem. To whoever argues that it's cruel, what is even more cruel is that the native animals having been pushed to the brink of extinction because of foreign invaders. Same goes for the foxes, the rabbits, the frogs, and everything else. They MUST be eradicated.

*"Long ago, native Australian people and animals lived together in harmony, then everything changed when the British and their pets attacked"*

I was like, "Why don't they just introduce foxes to control the rabbit population?", then I continued watching the video and was like, "Oh..:"

I remember when they talked about bringing back the Tasmanian wolf when I was a kid. That was 25 years ago so don't hold your breath

mate, this is just the tip of the iceberg, we've also got goats, pigs, feral rodents and camels that also cause significate damage to the native ecosystem.

Everything I have read / heard said that dingoes were introduced by humans (but obviously not Europeans). The theory that they migrated naturally is largely considered disproven because of both their geographic range (they would probably be in Tasmania if they came over during the time of the landbridge) and becuase of their genetic closeness to domestic dogs of Southeast Asia.
