The Civil War Fort Sumter

The Civil War began at Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861. The first shot was a culmination of years of animosity between the North and the South. New President Abraham Lincoln has to delicately deal with the issue of what to do about Fort Sumter and make sure the Union does not appear to be the aggressor. This video gives a short summary of the events. Questions below:

1. How many Southern states voted for Lincoln in the election of 1860?
2. What was the first state secede from the Union?
3. Fort Sumter was bombarded for how many hours?
4. How many volunteers does Lincoln call for to put down the rebellion?
5. Do you believe Lincoln provoked or was purposely trying to start the war or do you think he was trying to stop the war from starting? Why?

When I was doing research on this, I came across a letter from a Soldier to his mother, and he said they needed more Soldiers. This letter was dated Dec. 1860. They knew for at least four months that an attack was imminent.

If I'm being honest i actually don't know but i also belive that he was trying to prevent a war. He was trying to Prevent it becuase a war was not neccecerry if a war was to happen bad things could happen and if hes as smart as they think he is he would not fire first becuase if he did then he would have blood on his hands and he would be known as a bad president.
