The regulations vary for air, road and sea shipments. Bear in mind that it’s the shipper’s responsibility make sure the dangerous goods are packed and labeled correctly with the right documentation for the country of origin, transit and destination.

►Dangerous goods classifications
Dangerous goods are divided into nine classes and a few subclasses. The class your product falls under will determine how you pack, label and transport your shipment.

How to ship dangerous goods

►Step 1 - Choose the right box
The box should have specific markings on it outlining important information about the type of dangerous goods being shipped. The markings differ for each classification.

►Step 2 - Pack dangerous goods
Follow the relevant packing guidelines applicable to your shipment. The goods should be wrapped properly and any empty spaces in the box filled with packing material like vermiculite – this prevents the goods from moving around during transportation. Finally, make sure the box is properly sealed.
