TopSpeed Motion Simulator Review by The Simpit

This is a full review of the TopSpeed Motion Simulator by The Simpit. TopSpeed is a newer company on the market that produces a motion simulator that moves the entire rig. Seat, pedals, wheel and driver all in unison. The forces that are being delivered from the racing sim, get fed into the motion simulator and translated into movements that mimic g forces, body roll, road noise and the movement of the car on the track.

The Top Speed Simulator features 2 150mm actuators that create movement in many different directions. You have front to back, and side to side movement and and combination of the two together. In this review you find out how it holds up under real racing conditions. Can a motion sim compare to a static rig when it comes down to lap times? Is the experience actually realistic? These questions and more will be answered in this review.

Sim Racers, their equipment is everything. It is our connection to the simulation and what allows the realism to flow through our brains. A better computer, a better steering wheel and pedals and even triple screen monitors can all add to the experience making sim racing that much more realistic. The next natural progression in equipment would be a Full Motion Sim.

I got a chance to spend hours driving this rig, and I have to say it starts to grow on you, to the point where you don't want to go back to a static rig.  Having a motion rig to race on as a future goal, is definitely in the cards.

Great in depth review. Definitely explains the 2 types of motion rigs. After watching so many of these if I had one I'm not sure I would run full motion all the time. Run static setup for the lazy days and full motion for the full experience. Thanks

Great review Shaun! I'd like to see you do more videos like this!

Pros: No wheel wobble... Err, you had to wedge screws in the frame, I'd hardly say that was acceptable for something at this price.

Looks awesome... it really didn't look that awesome. The paint was terrible, should be powder coated.

Virtually no adjustments are available...

For something I'd built myself in a garage, I'd be pretty impressed with myself. But for something I'd spent several thousand dollars on, I'd be expected a lot more for my money!

Motion sims are expensive, but this one seems like a massive waste of money. Save up for a bit longer and buy something of a higher quality!

Great review. Nice to see a sim racing channel doing long detailed reviews like this. Now Sean, when are you going to review P Cards and RRE?

Shaun, great job as always. Always fun to watch some of ur vids. Learned alot from ur channel. Inside sim racing is okay but I prefer this channel more for some reason. Anyone can answer this question: should I upgrade from a logitech DFP (awesome wheel, just need a clutch) to a g27? I'm only a console gamer, so I know only games like gt 6 support g27 with clutch. Or should I just stick with the dfp? Since I'm not a pc gamer. Also can anyone recommend a cheap office/racing chair that I can strap my buttkicker clamp to?

Good review Shaun

Been wondering/half considering a motion rig for my future sim rig progression. Your review has given me a lot of food for thought, primarily based on stationary monitors/VR devices (I'm 3mon man atm), so a stationary monitor setup I see as the worst of the disadvantages for me personally and would not be able to cope with a static monitors setup for sure, until Occulus arrives, possibly in a lot later (wide-screen) versions of it.
Just as you said though, I've only been into a couple of m rigs at our office/shows myself, so very difficult to have an objective opinion, as your comments confirmed, it is seen as an expensive gimmick at best during short duration of usage and certain disadvantages.

While I could not possibly considered buying this rig, for such a limited adjustability, I  know I'd start to mod it myself right away, to allow tilted wheel stand and shifter/other mounts etc, but what's the point of buying such an expensive kit then?

The future will tell I guess, if I ever could be tempted into buying one, but that surely has to be after I get a DD wheel :)

What brand is that motion seat mover in the video?

Seat needs a safety harness so you can buckle in tight and resist the forces with less assistance from your feet and hands.

Looks more like an impressive DIY project than a $5000 motion system.

Looks like the single post and joint that the rig pivots on must take a real hammering.  I hope they have given some thought to swapping that part out if and when it breaks.

Good review. I don't know if it's possible...but could you do a review on the motion simulator by Pagnian. I've been checking that one out but would like your opinion on it. Great video as always and look forward to seeing more from you

Great indepth review!

I would love this but if I were going to spend my hard earned on it, I would want a lot more options and adjustability.  The whole rig needs refining in my opinion, I would want it to be rock solid after I have adjusted it, not having to fill gaps with screws.

The gear shift mount is not acceptable, needs an adjustable mount with all hard mounting options from the major wheel manufactures. same with pedal plate.

I would definitely need colour options, for me personally this colour combination is horrible, red and black would be a much better and safer option.

Overall I love this, I like the way that your pedals move with your seat and steering wheel, software looks a bit complicated for me though!

Not that any of the above is that important to me...can't afford it anyway!

Hi is it worth me spending on triple monitors/tv's or just wait for oculus next year?

25:43 I have a seat exactly like that (but it it s black and blue) on my Sim-Seat SRX rig and it has an adjustable seat back..

I see you have the exact same adjustment lever in the exact same spot.

Why couldn't you mount the seat on a rail, and move it forward one inch, and then tilt the seat backwards or forward a little?

Get a rail from Sim Seats dude..  it will fit your seat perfectly.

that is the uglies piece of tech I've ever seen. Sounds like a empty trailer going down the street.
