I love Beef’s line “ I know the difference between drugs real and real real”

The actress who plays The Other Janet in Shock Treatment is Jessica Harper, who starred in the 1977 Dario Argento horror classic Suspiria and cameoed in its 2018 remake/reimagining. And yeah, her singing voice is amazing.

I saw Phantom of the Paradise in theater back in the day. It has always been a favorite. The monster synthesizer to make the Phantom's voice is amazing.

That honky-tonk piano on 'The Hell of It' is just terrific. You can just tell it was written by the same guy who did the music for 'Bugsy Malone'. Also, what was it with Paul Williams playing villains with bird names?

“The Hell of It” is one of my favorites. Paul Williams used this song on the seventies Hardy Boys tv show.

I had the soundtrack LP as a kid, long before I saw the movie. In a still on the back or in the gatefold, you could see that Swan's signature easily reads as "Satan".

I often tell people that this movie felt tailor made for me! The 70s rock soundtrack, the Phantom of the Opera story, the sci Fi elements. I love it! Also fun fact, the two members of Daft Punk met each other at a screening of this movie! Their helmets are actually homages to Winslow's helmet and it's one of the reasons they chose to feature Paul Williams on their Random Access Memories album!

I absolutely love Phantom Of The Paradise, the story, the music, everything about it. I don't like musicals but this, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Repo The Genetic Opera, The Devil's Carnival, well, you get the picture, I love.

I absolutely love this movie and would always watch it whenever it came on tv.

Phantom is one of the most important films of my life... My mom actually saw it double feature WITH Rocky Horror Picture Show in '75 and went back to watch the double feature 13 TIMES! I grew up with Rocky from infancy, but I remember her talking about this movie a lot and one day saw it at Hollywood video, where I rented it so much they eventually gave it to me... I eventually found a replica phantom mask and had Paul Williams sign it at an event. You're right, The Hell of It is definitely the biggest banger on that soundtrack and I listen to it all the time, even after all these years xD Phoenix, the love interest, is also the lead in Suspiria (1977) which has become one of my favorites and she was cast because Argento saw her in this movie... Anyway, nothing too important to say here except I was excited to see you cover this and glad you liked it! Also, Beef is Bae!

Paul Williams has had a really interesting career. He also did Bugsy Malone, numerous collaborations with the Muppets (including Christmas Carol, the best Muppet movie), Penguin on Batman TAS and last thing I saw him in would be his cameo in Baby Driver (Edgar Wright is a huge Phantom of the Paradise fan).
Fun fact: He was almost a Bond villain. Williams was the first choice for Mr Wint in Diamonds are Forever but a deal couldn't be reached

I saw a screening of Phantom of the Paradise at the Hayden Orpheum and it was electric, I just received the soundtrack album on vinyl for Christmas Eve's gifts from my brother.

There was always something about Jessica Harper I found intriguing. I think she had a very good voice. She never found the proper vehicle for her talents. I think she publishes children's books these days.

I saw the trailer for this movie in theatres (matching trailer ratings to the movie they were in front of was not yet a thing) and Beef was unforgettable in the trailer alone. It was about 15 years later I found the movie he was in and it was worth the wait👨‍🎤⚡️

Not only is it a Brian De Palma movie. If memory serves (correct me if I'm wrong), it's his first movie.

"Somewhat Campy?!" What is your standard for fully campy?

Huge fan of Paul Williams, ever since Bugsy Malone. He’s also a great follow on IG. Thanks, as always, for the review!

I’ve been obsessed with this movie since I first saw it earlier this year. Glad to see it getting more attention.
