Tachina fera is a large Fly that is common in England and Wales and can be seen between May and September. It can be found in moist areas where it feeds on waterside plants. They are parasitoids, the females lay their eggs in Caterpillars, Sawfly and some in Beetles and Bugs and the hatched larvae eats its host. There are over 280 species of parasite fly in the UK alone plus thousands of species of parasitic wasp. They are harmless to humans.
