The History of the Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles, began in 1661, under the reign of Louis XIV. Originally a hunting lodge, it was transformed into a majestic palace, representing the power and wealth of the French court and became the center of France's political and cultural life until the French Revolution in 1789. Its design influenced European architecture, and today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It's spectacular. However, we (Indonesians) are very accustomed to knowing that European palaces have pointy towers. Every fairy tales book in Indonesia has that kind of description. So, I feel a bit taken aback that this magnificent palace doesn't have any pointy tower.

Having been there in person, its a lovely place. The Gardens were massive but since it was winter, most of the plants were dull.

Also the occasional gunshots were funny.
