I was at a hawks vs lakers game probably the season after this game and it was the exact same thing. The crowd was literally cheering louder for Kobe than our own team after he turned up the heat in the third. I’m telling you, absolutely nobody could get the crowd as amped up as Kobe could. Lebron not even close, I saw him play at Philips Arena a few times too. I’ll never forgot watching Kobe play, it’s an absolute experience. Now that he’s gone, it was a once in a lifetime experience 😔

For the guy who asked, the MVP chants started for Kobe after he got robbed in 2006 (the 2nd year Steve Nash won the Kobe was clearly the best player in the league and had the best season of anyone. But there was still a lot of backlash against him for how Shaq left, so voters wouldn't vote for Kobe. I think he came in 2nd, and there were 20 guys that didn't even have Kobe on their ballot. If those 20 had just put Kobe on anywhere, he would've Damn shame that the Mamba will end his career with only 1 MVP award.
