I have been advocating for a system such as this; small reactors serving industry and communities.... Perhaps in the near future, this technology will be mainstreamed, wherein each home has a micro-reactor providing all of their energy needs -> perhaps... Thanks and Cheers from Seattle! 🍻

Cant wait to see how it works out in Texas where they are starting a new plant

Generation IV reactors.
Wonderful concept.
May the new power plant be constructed smoothly.

Nice design but "double the temperature" generally makes no sense.
The stated temperature of 1400F translates to 1030K (which is the only unit that makes sense when talking about "doubling" of temperature). A typical LWR is about 600K, so not quite "double" but a major improvement.
{If I double temperature from 0 F or 0 C what is it?}

What is the mechanism to feed it in and out?

congrats to X-energy on their successful Pre-Licensing Vendor Design Review by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission last month.

Helium running through this 2 story metal chambers? 1400 Deg F helium is fed around piping to heat water. Lots of fittings in there, you ever work with containing helium? I have, it gets through the finest crack, and it’s not cheap. I think there’s a cheap heat exchange gas, with a little bit of helium added.

This is interesting considering we have a finite supply of helium in the US since the government sold our entire stockpile in Jan. 2024. What's going on here? How will they cool these reactors if hospitals are already worried about how they will run MRI machines soon. Something doesn't add up here.

Another “paper” reactor. I wish them well with their first prototype.

Sounds great, what country are you proposing to commercialize this reactor? Certainly not the US, at least not this century if the NRC has anything to do with it.

What will it take to get the project moving faster? The US built the A-bomb from nothing in 5 years. It's going to take that long to build and start operating one reactor that's already been designed? We have become so fearfully fearful. Let these people loose on the problem rather than hamstringing them at every turn. Reform the NRC.
