UFC 71: Liddell vs. Jackson 2 was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The event took place on Saturday, May 26, 2007, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Even after Quinton Jackson defeated UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell at Pride Final Conflict 2003 with a knockout, few felt that he would repeat the feat in a rematch four years later. Unfortunately for Liddell, Rampage duplicated his knockout when he challenged for “The Iceman’s” UFC belt in the main event of UFC 71, only this time he did it in the first round instead of the second.

In the pre-fight lead-ins, Liddell was firmly focused on avenging his loss to Rampage. “That’s my last loss,” he said, “and now I get to avenge it.” Rampage was unperturbed. “I’m going to knock him out in the third round,” he said. “Chuck ain’t going past the third round.” Rampage entered the cage first, wearing his larger-than-life chain around his neck. Rogan: “This is a big, big moment for Quinton Jackson. He was nervous in his Octagon debut against Marvin Eastman, and if he was nervous then he’s really going to be nervous tonight.” Liddell entered next to a loud ovation from the crowd in attendance. Goldberg: “He’s at the top of his game, and he has no plans of giving away his light heavyweight belt tonight.” Couture: “One of the amazing things we learned about Chuck about that first loss to Quinton, we’re just finding out now that he had an injury and wasn’t 100%.”

The fight didn’t last long. After a feeling-out period of over a minute to start the first round, Jackson ducked under a straight left hand by Liddell and came up with a hard right hook to the chin, sending Liddell to the canvas where he was finished with strikes at the 1:53 mark. Jackson was ecstatic following his title win. After agreeing that it was an early stoppage at first, Rampage changed his mind when he saw the replay. “Oh I changed my mind,” he said. “I agree with the ref. Yeah, he was out.”

For Jackson, his UFC career took off to new heights following the win. He defended his title against Dan Henderson later that year, before losing it to Forrest Griffin in July of 2008. Unfortunately for Liddell, the loss to Jackson began a career downward spiral, as he went on to lose four of his next five bouts, three of them by knockout.

Chuck was an average American, beer gut belly, love to eat and drink, but he had hands of Steel.... Dude was and still is forever a UFC Icon

I will never forget this fight. Chuck was the most feared fighter in the division. Then Rampage showed up on the scene and shook shit up. This fight was electric!

I think this was the one time Chuck was scared during a fight. His expression said it all.

PRIDE FC was steamrolling UFC champions in that time.

Crazy how one punch knocks him out, and the next punch wakes him up. 😁

Chuck was only ever a good counter puncher or when his opponents turtled up, or in wild exchanges he'd get the better of.
Rampage wouldn't let him counter and kept coming forward putting pressure to make chuck lead(which he always sucked at) then rampage countered him. Game over.

Chuck could never beat Rampage. Rampage cleaned his clock in Pride too.

Lidell was so sloopy in this fight
it's this what makes me believe that current fighters would absolutely dog walk past fighters

I loved watching Rampage when he was young and into fighting.

Liddell was the first UFC hype train.
He fought all the same fighters over and over again. The UFC was hesitant to let fighters from other promotions fight him because they knew he was all hype and didn't want to lose their golden goose.

That hook was so clean, Chucks head looked like it hit the pillow after a hard days work.😂
