Super villan idea: you attach giant glass tubes to your back and belt, then you attach one propane torch and one liquid nitrogen spray nozzle to your arms and with a bit of getting used to your new persona you are now "Prince Rupert" deliverer of the drops.

The tip of the flame is the hottest point, not the middle, you should have heated the glas with the tip of the flame

Set the lighter down where there's no wind and hold the glass rod vertically above the flame with the tip of the rod just within the tip of the flame and it will probably work

I believe another reason is that the soot actualy isolates the glass kinda protecting from the flame

You used a lighter to try and melt the glass, but it didn’t work because lighters have yellow flames, the propane torch melts the glass so quickly because it has a blue flame, and blue flames are hotter than yellow flames.
