There's so much beauty and menace in this tone poem. Ebb and flow, with relentless, slightly hesitant momentum. So difficult to pull off without it somehow sounding disjointed.
This performance packs a punch with so much emotion. When it works, as this does here, it gives me goosebumps. Bravo I say. 👌

This is Rachmaninov's musical impression of Arnold Boecklin's gloomy painting.  And so the music is shrouded in dark mysterious tones.  Bravo to this young orchestra and its conductor for a chilling rendition.
