What does it mean?

Some time ago, teachers of a religion tried to help this person, we'll call him Daniel, get sober.

Daniel succeeded and put the drug down. He ventured into the world with god at his back and new belief to go out and live his life to the fullest.
"I believed your stories... You gave my eyes what they wanted to see"
"I was once a believer"

But it was not long before the teachings failed and life shook him so much
"I've lost my reality I've lost everything in me...'"
that he
"Turning to addiction"
because
"Future doesn't matter..." when I have the drug
"I'd give it up for you"
"Even though I know that you never do"
The grammar there alludes to ALL the lives that the drug has taken

The drug was so powerful
"You know your power and I know it too"
that he lost the belief in himself
"I'll end up in fire burning with you"

So he returned to
"Praying in your religion"
"Now I'm back to believing"

Before, there was a part of him that was blind enough to believe everything that they said.
"I believed your stories, at least the blind in me"

But now, he is too smart for some of the teachings
"Can we say goodbye to the lies you told.. I've been here before and I'm wiser"

He thinks that the priests/bishops/teachers are silly
"You act like a god and you're trying too hard"

"But I need it"

"I was once a believer"

I am grateful for this man's courage to sing about his failures. This piece of art is so powerful.

The lyrics is not totally right. There’s no “her”, Isak said once that this song is about self love and trust
