The Osprey Daylite vs Daylite Plus: Let’s Keep It Simple

Choosing between the Daylite and Daylite Plus is as simple as deciding how much you room need for packing those essential items.

Which Backpack is Better?

Choose the Osprey Daylite if… You want an ultralight backpack for hiking, travel and daily carry or if you prefer the fit of a smaller backpack. The Osprey Daylite offers easy, care-free carry of just the essentials. 13 liters is enough to carry items like a water bottle, phone, wallet, snacks, a light jacket and a tablet or laptop up to 13-inches.

Choose the Osprey Daylite Plus if… You want a lightweight backpack for hiking, travel and daily carry but need the extra protection of a padded laptop sleeve and could use extra pockets for organization. The 20-liters puts you into daypack territory, not too small but not too big and bulky.

A big book about birds is what got me. Thank you for the video, it really helped me make a choice!

Daylight 13L hits the sweet spot for ultra lightweight airplane travel and it fits under the seat with room to spare.

Nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop, and an illustrated book about birds.

I bought both. Osprey would be geniuses if could factor in a slip pocket on the back of the pack like the Deuter Speedlite 25.

Excellent I appreciate the extra video work put in to do side-by-side views. Also, minimal editorializing, some folks just talk too much. Thx!

Daylite regular is my preferred, but I’m also super minimal and I like less. I use it for extended day-hiking.

I’m replacing my beloved but a bit worn and aged Daylite with a Daylite Plus. Just got the Daylite Plus but haven’t used it yet. I didn’t realize the size difference between the current Daylite and Daylite Plus, which I think will be a real bonus for me. I just assumed they had upgraded the size of the Daylite over the years. I’ve loved the simplicity of my old Daylite but will enjoy the extra space and pockets of the Plus. Thanks for your thorough review! It is most helpful. I will keep my old Daylite as backup.

Great vid. Helped me make my mind up. One thing I never see backpack reviewers show, is how they hang on the back when empty. Some buckle or press into your lumbar in an annoying way when lightly loaded. Would be great to see that demo'd.

Thank you for reviewing the side pocket capacity for bottles. This is an important detail that doesn’t really get the attention it needs, especially for large bottle users. Just purchased the Daylight based on your review. Thank you!!

I have the Plus and it's my favorite backpack. I own several but Daylite is so lightweight and I can fit enough stuff in it for an overnight trip or a full day or work, with lunch. Love the vibrant colors the backpacks come in as well.

I love my Osprey luggage and the wheeled carryon. I wish they would put locking clips on the daypack to deter pickpockets in crowded areas or metros. Similar to the clips on the PacSafe bags. It’s the only reason I have not purchased an osprey daypack.

For travel you will want the capacity of the DayLite Plus. You can always compress it if you don't need all the room.
I have an old Osprey Momentum 30 that has been to the Caribbean, Europe (many times) and Asia. It is my "under seat" carry-on bag. Love it for actual day hiking as well.

I found the DayLite to be an ideal travel carry-on type bag, and a great day pack. The Plus would have been too big and bulky for the light bag I needed, so the smaller one was the right one for me.

Do these attach to the front of a Farpoint 40? If so, How?

In addition to the dims, it would be awesome to include the bag weight and load capacities if available. Thanks and keep up the great work!

This video literally saved me from standing in my favorite outdoor store for 20 minutes comparing these packs side by side. Also, “Plateau” is officially stuck in my head for the remainder of the day.

Is there a travel compactable version of this?

Osprey should have given the larger bag it’s own name. They gave in to the temptation to capitalize on the popularity of the Daylite name. Unfortunately, they’re making the confusion even worse by offering the Daylite, the Daylite plus, the Daylite 26-2, and the Daylite sling. I love my gen1 Daylite but they need to stop the insanity.
