Did Tobias escape through a planer portal? That kinda looks like a spot in Kara-Tur that I once took a long rest at. The water was quite refreshing. There were several playful fairy dragons who lived near by that spent the entire night taking turns playing tricks on me. Needless to say, I did not get much rest that night. It was quite exhausting. You just need to be careful of the Aurumvorax in the nearby fields. I'll fire up a teleportation circle and see what I can find.

Based on a rather delightfully oddball character I'm playing in a current campaign. I also took the liberty of casting Guidance upon myself before making the survival check.

Unfortunately, Thael is not the brightest fellow. While very observant, he's also easily distracted. WITH the Guidance, the check is 12 on Survival. Without Guidance, it would be 9. The dice were, as they say, unkind.

I did not go with Investigation. Having a 5 Intelligence would have made that decidedly worse of a check.

That said, the only hope on my end is if Tobias is intrigued by a creature that's small, might possibly have a hint of being an aberration, but is extremely naive and child-like. Then maybe it's not so much that Thael found Tobias, but that Tobias found Thael.
