This is a pretty straightforward video but you might be surprised at how many times I've been asked about this. If you have a different set up on your vehicle check the owners manual for specific information on your make and model and don't forget to check to see if you can just replace the inserts, if you do you could save some money by installing those instead of the entire blade.

5yrs now and your video is still helping people. Thank you very much! That "hit it a little bit" finally dislodged the stuck passenger's side wiper blade that's taking way to long to replace than the other side. Thanks to you!!

Just spent more time than I'd like to admit finding a video with the tab type you describe in the video. Thanks!

In my experience, changing wiper blades will always go 1 of 2 ways:

1. Remove old blade and install new one - 1 minute

2. Spend 10 minutes trying to get the old one off, then give up for 10 minutes. Return to vehicle and try for another 10 minutes, get pissed off and give up. Return after a 10 minute cool down period with a screwdriver and start prying at plastic bits. Break various plastic bits, then try to remove blade again. Get pissed off and become more aggressive with screwdriver. Cut finger after misguided gouging with screwdriver. Go back inside to treat wound and make a bloody mess while trying to open a band aid wrapper with 1 hand while keeping pressure on wound with other.. Now that you're absolutely furious, return to vehicle (wearing gloves now) with needle nose pliers and break all remaining plastic bits. Try to remove blade. Realize that there are metal tabs keeping blade locked in place - proceed to mangle metal tabs with pliers - ta da! Remove old wiper blade and install new one - 1 hour.

Thanks guy! You just saved me $50. That's what the dealer want d to charge me for the new blades installed. I paid $3.50 for each blade and changed them my damn self. Cheers!

I've seen cars that automatically re-park the blades even after the key is off. There is a "wiper change" setting that is accessible on these cars. This is where the owner's manual, as you pointed out, is invaluable.

A nice, clear video is a good thing. Replacing the wipers while dealing with Parkinson's adds a lot of frustration for me, and comedy for others. At least now I should be able to do it with a minimum of both frustration and laughs.

Can't thank you enough for this easy-to-follow video! My wiper blades were so bad, I couldn't see at all in the rain. I bought replacement blades a year ago and have been waiting (and waiting) for dear hubby to replace them, but a year later, I was still waiting. Not even his father's scolding ("Your wife and children ride in this car!") worked,  so I took matters into my own hands and went to YouTube--where else?!--for help and was lucky enough to found your video! Thanks to you, it literally took me only two minutes to switch out both blades. It actually took me longer to get my keys to turn on the car so the blades were in the vertical position (great tip) and then to find something to stand on, since I couldn't reach the passenger-side blade without a boost! Thanks again. Not only will I be a much safer driver in the rain from now on, but I'm thrilled to know how to do it myself! No more waiting for someone to do it for me!

Very helpful video with great tips.  The instructions on the replacement blade packages were useless and I just couldn't figure out how to remove the old blades.  I watched the video then went out to my car and was able to replace my wiper blades without issue.  Thanks!

tried 3 other videos first and couldn't do it, they made me feel like I was an idiot... watched your video and realized I wasn't going to break anything by tapping the end or wiggling the blade to get it off. Thank you!

Thank you! I couldn't get the old one off and all the other videos just showed them slipping right off. Mine had the little clippy underneath and after watching your video I was able to find the clip and remove it quick and easily. Thanks so much.
OMG! I just read Chris Clausen's post below and #2 is exactly what I was going through. After watching your's I was able to have the #1 experience. Thank you!

Hi, I'm a 70 year old woman who watched your video. It helped me do the wipers all by myself. Thank you 😊

Thank you Eric! I like your method of running the wipers until they are pointing up.

When I change wiper blades, I use an old T-shirt or a cleaning rag. After I remove the first wiper, I rest the wiper arm against the windshield with the T-shirt for padding. This way I don't have to worry about the wiper arm smacking into the windshield!

Here's a helpful thing for everyone to know! On a cold winter day, if you start the car, turn on the windshield wipers and they don't move because they are frozen in place, then you need to get out and break those wipers free!

Otherwise the wipers will still be trying to finish their sweep, even though you turned them off. And you will likely burn out your windshield wiper motor. I learned this from Bill Osborne, my high school buddy. This happened to Bill's mom. Her windshield wipers were frozen, so she drove to work with the defroster on high, but the windshield wipers were still trying to move. That burned out her windshield wiper motor. So Bill replaced the windshield wiper motor for her.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Thank you for helping this girl figure out how to save some money by doing it herself. Just hope I can manage it now!

Thanks for this!
I have to add one tip for extreme newbies like me: there may be a protective covering on your new wiper blade, which needs to be removed. I ACTUALLY didn't NOTICE and it took me half a day to figure out why my brand new, top of the line wiper was totally ineffective. Go ahead and laugh at me: i did too! But thanks for the video, it did the trick

Thanks for the video. Just a note that on my wiper blades I had to pull the clip apart instead of pinch it together to get it to come off. It sounds counter-intuitive but it actually worked. 1:45 in the video, pull the tabs apart instead of pinch.
