Take me across the water 'cause I need some place to hide
I done the rancher's daughter and I sure did hurt his pride, ha-ha
(Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ah, ah)
(Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ah, ah)

Well, there's a hundred miles of desert lies between his hide and mine
I don't need no food and no water, no, 'cause I'm runnin' out of time
Fightin', killin', wine and women gonna put me to my grave
Runnin', hidin', losin', cryin', nothin' left to save but my life
(Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ah, ah)
(Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh, ah, ah)

Stood on a ridge and shunned religion, thinkin' the world was mine
I made my break and a big mistake, stealin' when I shoulda been buyin'
All that fightin', killin', wine and those women gonna put me to an early grave
Runnin', hidin', losin', cryin', nothin' left to save but my life
Life, life, life, life, life, life, life, life

So I stood on a ridge and shunned religion, thinkin' the world was mine
I made my break and a big mistake, stealin' when I shoulda been buyin'
I was stealin' when I shoulda been buyin'
I was stealin' when I shoulda been buyin', yeah

(Stealin') when I shoulda been buyin'
(Stealin') when I shoulda been buyin'
(Stealin') when I shoulda been buyin'
(Stealin') when I shoulda been buyin'
(Stealin') woo
(Stealin') ha-ha-ha, yeah, I was
(Stealin)' when I shoulda been buyin'
(Stealin') oh, yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah
(Stealin') ooh-ooh-hoo-ooh-ooh-hoo
(Stealin') rock 'n' roll, alright
(Stealin') rock 'n' roll, alright
(Stealin') babe, babe
(Stealin') should, should, shoulda been buyin'
(Stealin') should, should, shoulda been buyin'
(Stealin') shoulda, shoulda, shoulda been buyin'
(Stealin') yeah, buyin', yeah
Yeah
Ooh-hoo, woo

Song reminds me of my father (born in 1959 and grew up in the ‘70s). Shared a lot about what it was like to grow up then. This is of his favs.
