In the dying days of the Second World War in Europe, Hitler was cooped up in his Fuhrerbunker in Berlin as the Russians/Soviet Army surrounded the German capital. What had happened to his many different residences and offices across Germany though?

Well possibly Hitler's most famous house or Nazi Headquarters outside of Berlin has to be his mountain retreat in Bavaria known as the Berghof. Situated in Obersalzburg, near to the village of Berchtesgaden, this mountain retreat would become infamous throughout the Second World War as a sign of the Nazi Party's leadership. However, as Hitler was in Berlin, the allies and particularly the RAF felt the need to strike Hitler where it hurt him, to eliminate any possible threat that the war would continue from a Nazi Arctic Fortress. So during 1945, the plan to bomb the Berghof and surrounding region was devised. Join us today as we tell the story of the RAF Raid on the Berghof, and the Bombing of Hitler's House.

I visited the ‘Eagles Nest’ last The Obersalzberg is a stunningly beautiful location. Ive seen a few videos about the RAF bombing in April 1945, but you’ve added quite a bit of depth to my knowledge, so thanks for your video. Subbed 👍

My great grandpa actually helped bomb his house. His name was Walter Vollmer, and you can look it up as well, it will have some sort of correlation with his house.

Love the old footage. It is interesting how they put rocks on the roof for snow. It must have been a beautiful place. So glad I found your post on the Reddit History Blog. It is nice to find kindred spirits.

We were up there last summer .Amazingly the Berghof is very close to the main town. From the train station you head down 400 yards .Turn right and snake up the ridiculously steep hill then hang a left .Head up about 200 yards and the Berghof site is 50 yards down from the Hotel Turken .I took great pleasure in taking a nice long piss right in the middle of the site .The big concrete retaining wall is still there as your marker and an information board in the trees ..Absolutely beautiful countryside there .Spectacular mountains too.

Very good and interesting video. However it is not entirely accurate.... My father was on this raid. He and three other members of the crew expressed to us extreme annoyance that media and other people commenting afterwards had incorrectly stated that the Eagle's Nest and or the Berghof were the target/s.... They were never the target - the target was the SS barracks which were destroyed (As referred to in everyone's log books). We have the original line overlap photos (taken by dad) and the original follow up recon photos. They also commented that there was plenty of flak over the target - just not very accurate because of smoke and mist. They were crew of K-King 101 Squadron.

Had no idea about this raid. I also had no idea the allies wanted Hitler kept alive due to his poor mismanagement of the war. Do you have a link that covers that info in greater detail?

Am also enjoying the backing music/track, is that your own creation?

The way he treated children was totally heinously and behind inhumane. No words. Hopefully he loved his own
Highly doubt it.
