Take a virtual tour of the Gundibri Eco-Action Site at Merriwa where Hunter LLS is demonstrating small do-able projects to build drought resilience on your farm. This is 1 of 7 new hi-vis sites established across the Hunter through The Paddock Between the Ears program funded through the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund.
The timing was perfect for fencing off 2.5ha around a farm dam right on the Scone Road, set in a Box Gum Grassy Woodland with heavy local rain filtered through the Plains Grass inflow filling the dam and setting the scene for re-vegetation with trees, shrubs and reeds. We plan to track the progress of this site as we aim to establish a drought stock-water reserve for the adjoining 130ha now subdivided into three paddocks and watered via a new remotely monitored solar pump/tank system. Our project goal is to create hubs where farmers can investigate drought management options underway in their local community like this farm dam enhancement and remnant vege rehabilitation. It’s the perfect spot to keep an eye on project progress and keep conversations going around the value of natural capital, drought planning and your Paddock Between the Ears!
