Natural Gas Flare Assen, Netherlands. Affakkelen NAM Drenthe

The Assen-1 site located in Assen, Netherlands, produces natural gas which flows through the gas pipelines of the country. Normally there is no flaring at this location but today there was, with a flare mounted on a truck. This made a huge flame and a lot of noise, both of which were obvious from near our home on the other side of the motorway which you can occasionally see in the video.

I despair at the stupidity. Govts could insist they pipe it to a nearby hospital/old people's home/swimming pool etc where it could be used for heating?
