Uncommitted Movement Welcomes Biden Stepping Aside, Hoping Harris Will Change Course on Gaza

Vice President Kamala Harris has the backing of enough Democratic delegates to secure the party's presidential nomination, with Democrats planning to hold a virtual roll call in the coming days to formalize her place atop the ticket ahead of the Democratic National Convention in August. The Democratic Party has quickly coalesced around Harris following President Joe Biden's stunning decision Sunday to drop his reelection bid, but questions remain about whether she will significantly alter Middle East policy. The "uncommitted" movement of voters seeking to pressure Democrats to stop U.S. support for Israel's war on Gaza "breathed a sigh of relief" when Biden dropped out, says Democratic strategist Waleed Shahid, an adviser to the movement, and activists are hopeful for Harris to take a new approach. Shahid adds that the Democratic Party cannot cast itself as a champion of democracy standing against far-right authoritarianism while continuing to arm the extremist Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu, saying it "makes a mockery of our party's claim to be fighting on the right side of history."

Thank you for talking about this. The Gaza genocide is the number one issue and I am disgusted at all my liberal friends who have ignored it all this time.

Democratic party needs a transparent democratic process to choose our candidate, If it is not that threatens democracy.

This is not democracy we have to vote for people to get them in power. They can't throw us anybody and we must accept it

What’s the point of calling for an open convention when most of the leading potential candidates have said they won’t run?

I read yesterday that the Democratic candidates in 1960 barely campaigned in the primaries. Lyndon Johnson declared his candidacy not too long before the convention and debated JFK a week before it. So if someone had wanted to challenge her, there is a precedent to deal with it.

Harris is meeting Netanyahu not arresting him that tells us all we need to know.

So why would I want to live in America? I can’t afford rent, a car, healthcare for my family. Now there is no democratic process, so I might as well live in a 3rd world country under a dictator because my dollar goes further. I can afford a middle class living instead of poverty. United States of Corporations, United States of Israel, no thank you. It’s about trying to survive, feed your family, get a decent job for what I’m worth. My college degree doesn’t even help me afford a living in America. The elite own it all, enjoy a nice life, while they commit genocide and war around the world. No thank you!

Marianne Williamson said she was running from the moment Joe said he dropped out.

Hopefully, once there is a ceasefire, Palestinians will have a plan for one state or two. We know Netanyahu wants neither.

I am not a Trump supporter. I was a block, captain in, the Democratic Party. I feel like I'm being railroaded into supporting Harris. It should be an open convention with Biden. Releasing his delegates and seeing what choices we may have.

Are you kidding, Kamala is going to do something different with Israel than Biden? Please. Voting the dems out is the ONLY course of action that can ever lead to change.

I'm not against the dnc doing an open convention, i just think it's pointless. Harris will probably win it, anyway. As for her, i have issues w her, but she's better than biden & waaaay better than trump.

This is hysterical. No one was "stunned" by Joe stepping down. Kamala's charm will wear thin like when a sugar high wears off.

Republicans invited bibi, they should be speaking up against trump and republicans too, they would be way worse on gaza and would annex west bank, so not only is democracy on the line, but Palestine is on the line, protest is good as long as when its time to vote you remember what is at stake

This is why neither party gets my vote. Especially not this party. 1: I don't think he even heard the questions that were asked to him. They tend to prepare scripted answers but cannot form answers to real time questions. He was asked about Milwaukee in the last few minutes of this and he completely ignored the City all together and the question entirely 😂. 2: I don't like how they just make up lies and assumptions. Until Kamalaa says that she isn't meeting Netanyahuu because she doesn't agree with his actions, then it doesn't matter. It was stated that Kamalaa had prior commitments and that's why she can't meet with Netanyahuu, so let's not lie and say that she is taking a stand against him when she said she had something else scheduled before he was invited to come here. If this man works for the Democratic party, please tell him to stop insulting our intelligence and stop fabricating stances and statements that we haven't seen or heard. ✌🏾 Thanks.
