Might be illuminaring to consider Imam Khomeini's letter to Mikhail Gorbachev in Jan 1989, predicting the fall of Soviet Union and inviting the Soviet state to embrace Islam (with its deep non-materialistic worldview as the solution to the human situation in the East and the West). The 1989 was a critical point in the history of the last century and even just an inclining gesture toward Islam from the Soviet state would have transformed the regional (Afghanistan/Pakistan/Central Asia/Iran/Turkey/Middle East) and global power equations.

Excellent video (also you are cute lol). I'd say it would have been better for Russia overall (and I am saying this as someone who is of Russian ancestry). It would have been better geopolitically because Islam would have literally created a wall between Europe and Asia (at least a land wall). This would have granted Russia a massive monopoly over Asian / European relations for centuries (before the discovery of the Americas which helped circumvent land crossing / trade). It would have also been bettern because there is a huge vaccume in power in Islamic nations at the moment. The West is sort of led by America, Asia is sort of being led by China and the Islamic world which happens to be dab center of the 3 old continents (Europe, Asia and Africa) have no significant power at the moment. They only have the regional power of Turkey and to some extent Iran (kind of). This would have been extremely beneficial for Russia in modern times as it would have likely been the actual leader of the Islamic world ever since the Ottomans declined. Russia today would be seen as the savior and powerhouse of a religion with over 1.4 billion followers. This would have made us so much more wealthier and powerful because we would protect Muslim nation interests the same way America does for Western Europe interests and we would have had a massive consumer base that is favorable to us. All things point to islam being a better tool to use imo. What is also worth noting is that Russia would have likely been a very Slavic-Turkic nation state (even more so than it is today). The Central Asian states, the Slavic Balkans and even Turkey today may have all been under the direct fold of an even larger and more expanded Russia.

It's funny because I had this debate with my uncle more recently and he was saying its not too late for Russia to turn towards Islam. He was mostly saying it because he resents the way Western Europe constantly and consistently alienates Russia and treats it as if it were not European and also on a lighter note he wants Istanbul to belong to Russia but recognizes that there is no way the local populations would ever accept Russia conquest unless Russia itself became muslim and then the local Turkish population would likely be anti Russian conquest at first but soon after welcome it when they see that nothing has really changed. (Yes these are the types of convos I have with my uncle who is obsessed with the USSR days and Russian expansionism lol).

Russia would probably be better off. Another thing is that russia wouldve never became communist(or atleast an atheist country) so the population of russia(current borders) would be closer to 220 million or higher
