ESSEC Asia-Pacific: Master Class - Redefining the Asian Century by Prof. Nona Pepito

Asia is the base to some of the major powerhouses of the global economy with India and China in the lead. In fact, this century has been termed by many experts as "The Asian Century", but what does that mean?

It tends to send a message that much of the growth in the world will come from Asia, while unfortunately masking many underlying issues. One must keep in mind that Asia is filled with diverse cultures and institutions as well as the growth prospects. The growth in Asia is not a promise, but a prospect, and there is no guarantee of rapid growth.

The objective of this master class is to revisit assertions of this century being the "Asian Century." It will look at the trends that gave rise to this expectation, inquire into doubts regarding its realization, and discuss challenges and opportunities in the ongoing story of the "rise of Asia."
