Nothing like waking up at 9 seeing college football all the way to 10 pm

Big Noon isn't a terrible idea, it's just that they take the idea and only choose one team to use it on. Like last year, our last 6 regular season games were all at noon, and I believe 5 of them were Fox Big Noon. That just gets repetitive.

Honestly, what they should do is have four noon games, four 3:30 games, and four primetime games for each team, and spread them throughout the year.

Big noon sucked. OU was stuck playing at noon constantly. Cost the town tons of money not having people around all day. If you travel 200 miles to the game it sucked.

As an osu fan i despise big noon kick off. Cant imagine how PSU fans feel. Every big game is a noon kick. Tennessee was the first big night game we had had in years and it was absolutely electric in the stadium. Big noon robs us of these atmospheres for ratings. The thing Josh rails against all the time. The only issue is that the B1G Noon games are hugely unfair to West Coast Big Ten teams. Washington had FOUR Big Noon road games last year. Those are 9am body clock starts, and you can't have a Big Noon west coast home game, because that would be 9am.

I'm sorry but as someone whose childhood was SEC noon/1pm kickoffs on Jefferson Pilot Sports, I hate noon CFB kickoffs. It just feels cheap and not brand name football. To me, that's the time slot for UGA, Bama, OSU, Texas to play whatever directional school needed the money for their program. 330 is when the CFB weekend begins and 10 is when the last game comes on.

As an Englishman, having a big game at 4 p.m/5p.m my time is ace. It moving between conferences would be a great improvement though.

To summarize this 6 minute video:

Fox has the rights to the best big ten games. There’s a reason Ohio state constantly played early games,

I just saved you 6 minutes.

The Big Ten (and Notre Dame) has had a history of noon (CST) kickoffs going back decades and it’s for a similar reason as that teams in the Deep South usually kicked off later in the day, the temperature. I know PSU & ND haven’t played on a regular basis since PSU joined the B1G but when they did play every year that game was ALWAYS a noon (CST), 1 (EST) kickoff because that game was usually played in middle to late October when temps would still be around 55° to 65° at noon. Conversely in the Deep South, especially at the beginning of the season the temps are more mild for evening kickoffs.

The whole television deciding kickoffs didn’t really start to come into play until the mid 80’s when individual conferences won the rights to negotiate their own broadcast rights.

Noon should be reserved for games like Rutgers vs Maryland

It was so nice seeing OSU play in prime time in 3/4 playoff games. So glad Fox isn’t involved in that!

As someone who has been to many PSU Ohio state games. The whiteout at night is a game that is second to none but going to a whiteout game at noon against Ohio state is the most mid experience ever. I went a few years ago and there were available seats in my section that I know of that game was a noon you wouldn’t have been able to find an empty seat. Some games are just meant to be played at noon and some aren’t. Fox just needs to realize that and move the time slot sometimes

Josh I’m a Penn state fan but you can’t tell me a word of what i say is anything less than pure objective reality. The TRUTH is that the executives at Fox have been unbelievably inopportune with the games they choose for the noon slot, and very consistently so. The so-called truth as you put it is “I Josh Pate personally enjoy the convenience of working a noon game, ” and decided to tie in Big Noon Kickoff specifically just because it’s a hot topic I guess

As an Oklahoma fan, I'm so glad to essentially never have to deal with Big Noon anymore. It's so nice to not have a majority of your games start at 11 AM.

I’m fine with big noon kickoff for BIG games. Not sure why but I’m totally cool with it. SEC games though, the real big ones like GA vs Bama or TN vs Bama I like at night. Although I used to like the SEC on CBS 3:30 games.

Josh is right. I’ll add that when FOX stared broadcasting games in the early 2010s they tried to compete with ABC by putting their best game in prime time. Naturally they got crushed in the ratings. Years later they finally started to make some headway in the ratings but not in the prime time window. It was in the noon window in 2017 when the showed OSU-MICH on Fox for the first time. And then in 2018 when they had Texas-OU on FOX for the 1st time. (A wild 51-48 game which remains one of the wildest Red River games in the history of the rivalry). Naturally Fox felt they had something with the noon window. So, hence Big Noon Saturday was officially born a year later.

Penn State fan here. Josh is spot on on all this, including travel to Happy Valley. Big noon games are great, if, if, it’s not the same three teams rotating every week (& when there are no big B1G games, trying to make us excited about random match ups). Love the plan for CFB level media rights. Otherwise, the golden goose is gonna get slaughtered.
